Yesterday... WOW!
It was a fantastic day tracking two songs with The Tyler Gitchel Band! As we like to do, we went LIVE, off the floor.
Tyler plays acoustic guitar and sings simultaneously so I kidnapped him and brought him into the control room with me. We placed a U87 on his guitar above and facing down to put his vocal in the null and then a Sennheiser 865 condenser for his vocal. Everything sounded fantastic!
Drums got the "tried and true" Shure SM57s on top and bottom of the snare. A pair of vintage 421s on both toms and a vintage AKG inside the bass drum. A matched pair of LEWITT for overheads and an on the hats and a on the ride.
Bass went through our Gallien-Krueger 400. It sounded amazing.
With a telecaster style guitar, we went through a VOX Amplification USA with a combo of a 57 and a ribbon about 6 inches off the speaker.
The steel ended up through our in house vintage Hartke bass amp. It sounded big and warm. We took a from the head and into an API Audio preamp.
Fiddle went direct through a Fishman pre-amp which warmed it up nicely.
All together the band was amazing and sounded killer. We have a day off today but will get in there and mix'em up tomorrow. Thanks for a great day, guys!

Great day with out of Holland, Michigan! We tracked LIVE, including vocals, with just a couple of background vocal overdubs and some nasty guitar feedback w a semi-hollow Casino through a SL-X all tube amp... CRANKED. Our setup for Adam on drums was a vintage D12 E inside the kick covered w packing blankets, a pair of SM57s on top and bottom of the '73 . A pair of vintage 421s on the rack and floor toms. An AKG 414 on/above the ride and a matched pair of the LCT 140 mics as a split pair for overheads. Mike with an active Pup 5 string bass went from his into a FET DI box and Randy was on the Epi Casino into a custom switchable active/passive DI built by studio friend . Then we dialed in an incredible tone through a amp and let his pedalboard do all of his fx. Abe, their singer, was securely gobo'd into the corner and sang into an SM7B.
After tracking most of the day, we got to mixing.
