Effective immediately, my focus for accepting future projects will be limited to dissertations, articles subject to peer-review, boardgames, academic texts, and legal or other transcription work that still requires a warm body.

Ten years ago today, I finally understood the concept that if you want something bad enough, you will move Heaven and Earth to make it happen. It has happened in certain instances previously, but never in such a conscious fashion.

Many of you know the story by now, which was a first-of-it’s-kind fan meetup trip to Cambridge, Massachusetts, threatened by an epic blizzard that closed the entire Tri-State area. The show went on. (Yeah, we met Zachary Quinto!)

I recall the excited words blurted to Andrew Peterson once I returned to my hotel room, remaining phone charge gasping in the lowest single digits: “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!”

The success of this trip cemented the will for making another dream of mine a reality: starting my own business. Ten years later, I’ve accidentally learned SO MUCH while transcribing audio recordings, editing over 30 books, 30 dissertations, copy typing, and the occasional voice project.

The man I have been married to for 20 years on September 25th did a thing that pretty much defines the last 25 years I have known him.

He got me flowers. I’m not one for real flowers, but prefer the artificial ones for the sake of longevity.

He knows I miss Staples once our local store closed. Office supply stores are my version of Toys ‘R Us.

But he gave me enough red pens to last at least for the next 10 years!

(Yeah, I cried happy tears.)
