Howard County Library Renovation Project estimated to be $175k over budget

BIG SPRING, TX -- During Monday's regular meeting of the Howard County Commissioners Court, Howard County Judge Randy Johnson advised that the Howard County Library Renovation Project was $175,000 - $176,000 over budget, based on the architectural drawings that have been 90% completed. He encouraged Commissioners to think about what can be done to scale back that estimate. It was noted that no action would be taken at this time, but it will be discussed again after Commissioners have had time to consider solutions.

According to Judge Johnson, $1 million has been set aside by the county for this renovation project; plus, the library has done additional fundraising on it's own and also recently received a $10,000 donation.

Commissioners also approved an interlocal agreement with the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission for Next Generation 9-1-1 Automatic Location Information & Geographic Information System Maintenance Services, the purchase of a new Chevrolet Traverse for the Howard County Sheriff's Office. It was also noted that funding for the vehicle would come out of the Commissary fund. Plus, the discussion on the 11th Place, Midway Rd., Moss Lake Rd. Super-Heavy Overweight Permit Request was tabled until more information could be gathered concerning a possible alternate route. Commissioners also approved the official notice to proceed for the expansion of the Howard County Sheriff's Office.

The 213 Opens Its Doors with a “First Pour” Grand Opening Event on August 2

Big Spring, TX – Downtown Big Spring is about to raise the bar—literally. The 213, an elegant new cocktail lounge located at 213 S Main Street, will host its official Grand Opening- The First Pour on Saturday, August 2, starting at 4:00 PM.

The 213 delivers a refined, big-city feel to the heart of Big Spring. With handcrafted cocktails, elegant interiors, and a polished atmosphere, it's designed to offer locals and visitors a high-end experience without leaving town.

The 213 is the fourth new business to open in the downtown district over the past two months, and is part of a growing movement to revitalize and reimagine the heart of Big Spring.

“We wanted to create something special and unexpected for Big Spring—a place that brings a little big-city energy without losing the charm of our community,” said Elida Rodriguez, owner of The 213. “This is a place to celebrate, connect, and enjoy the kind of night out you don’t have to leave town for.”

Elida is a first generation Mexican-American, born and raised in Big Spring. With over 15 years of experience as a master mixologist, she believes there’s just something special about connecting with people through a great drink. Her favorite drink to make? It’s whenever someone takes a sip and says, “That’s the best one I’ve ever had.” However, anyone who has followed her from past ventures will tell you her Old Fashioned is unmatched.

Guests must be 21+ and are invited to come early, stay late, and responsibly enjoy signature cocktails, warm hospitality, and great company. Small plates will be provided while supplies last, and an acoustic set by AC/ZC will begin at 9pm.
