Established in 2005, Gnome Life Records produces analog, limited edition, musical artifacts. Our headquarters and recording studio (Atavistas) sit atop Partington Ridge in Big Sur, California. Nestled in an old growth oak and redwood forest, Gnome Life emanates from a wild and majestic landscape, rich in human and non-human history, overflowing with physical and non-physical power, ripe with myste
ry. But even our artists that come from distant lands share a common, ineffable core. Our releases, though varied in musical genre and tone, all exist within a dynamic, aesthetic ecosystem. Each artist and album inhabits a different niche in this habitat of mind and spirit. We create vinyl records and cassette tapes that are crafted with so much intention that they move beyond the average realm of material objects and disposable media, to become treasured belongings, imbued with the primordial magic of Big Sur. All of our releases were originally recorded using analog technology, capturing and transmitting the organic fullness of the creative moment. When crafting our artifacts, we attempt to source the highest quality materials, both aesthetically and environmentally. When we can’t make something ourselves we employ family-owned businesses and friendly artisans to aid us in our work. Everything is made on the West Coast of the USA; most releases are manufactured entirely in California.
