Team members are another You.
Working in a team is a wonderful thing. You can amplify your effectiveness by being in communication with people who have skills that you don’t have, learning from them and finding solutions to make thing better for your clients and customers. The communication between team members may be constant, or it may be periodic, but one thing is for sure: you are operating as an extended mind, as you lean into one another.

It can be tricky, too. The backbone of any team is the level of communication. It has to be based on mutual respect and keeping an open dialogue going. Wondering what another person is thinking slows things down, and more often than not, it stops the whole process in its tracks and can even destroy the team or the project itself.

When there are questions about who is going to do what, get them out in the open and make decisions that the whole group understands. It’s important to remember that your team members are another version of yourself. If there is something you admire about a person, let them know about it and learn from the qualities that they show, taking them in to your own way of doing things.

If there is something that is bothering you about someone else’s approach to the situations you are dealing with, think carefully about how to bring that out. Sometimes a one-on-one conversation is better for clearing things up than bringing it up for the whole group. Other times, you need to let everyone know. Again, open commun ication at the right level is the way to get past blockages in your flow as a team and keep things moving.

Remember that the things that are bothering you reflect your own energy in some way. If someone displays a behavior that you have outgrown, it can be especially irritating. Let the irritation go and focus on what needs to be done.

Sometimes, something you did just flat out does not work. Then what? You have to cut your losses and change your tactics. The strategy did not work, so the first thing to do is to look at what did not work and consider that as a data point to design something that does work. Failure reaches wonderful lessons when we are ready to learn and not get stuck on the idea of failure. It’s just another moment in the flow of life, so picking up and going on is the answer, here.

I have a client who told me when we first talked that he had spent $80,000 in marketing consultations that resulted in ZERO leads. I was stunned by that, and I was also happy to know that I can do a lot better than that for him!

This gentleman is a great talker and he has written a bunch of very knowledgeable articles on his favorite topic. When I heard his presentation in a group, I reached out to him and asked him if he wanted to put his obviously vast knowledge into a book.

Fast forward, we are working together on a multi-volume series on the topic of commercial real estate investing. By putting his encyclopedic knowledge into a literal encyclopedia, he will establish his reputation at the top of his field, which is well earned. He will be on stages and in groups where people who understand what he can do will hire him.

It makes me very happy when I can turn something around for a person. Instead of beating yourself up when things don’t go the way you had hoped, consider changing your tactics. But first, look at your strategy.

Where are your prospects? How will you connect with them and establish your expertise? What results do you provide? On these three questions all effective messages are built. Strategies that are based on the answers to these questions, deeply examined, will yield successful marketing. Reach out to me and let’s see what your answers are.
