Every evening...
Someone stole the dirty blankets.
Not one.
Not two.🥺
Almost every blanket waiting to be washed somehow disappeared before the laundry room closed. ❤️
The volunteers were completely confused.
Fresh blankets stayed exactly where they were.
Soft new beds were untouched.
Only the old blankets disappeared.
The ones that had already been used.
The ones covered with the familiar scent of kittens who had spent the day sleeping on them.
At first, everyone thought another volunteer was moving them.
But nobody was.
The mystery continued for nearly a week.
Then one evening, a volunteer stayed late to finish laundry.
As she quietly folded towels, she noticed a tiny orange kitten sneaking into the room.
He looked left.
Then right.
Almost like he knew he wasn't supposed to be there.
He grabbed the corner of one old fleece blanket with his tiny teeth.
Slowly...
Very slowly...
He dragged it across the floor.
The blanket was almost three.....

In the days following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, thousands of people in New Orleans were stranded by floodwaters, with little food, clean water, or emergency assistance. Among them was 20-year-old Jabbar Gibson, who decided he couldn't wait any longer for help to arrive.🥺
