The story of Herb and Susan Russell in our latest issue of RITW is a tender one. Herb was born on the ranch he still lives on at Nye - 102 years ago! Susan is 97. The couple have been married for 77 years! We shared the link to their story on a handful of community pages and it's been read over 1000x just in the last couple of days! If you haven't grabbed our latest issue, here's their story!

The ancestors of the Russell and Rich families are as hardy as the century-old apple trees still growing on the Russell Ranch. Both families immigrated to the area in the early 1900’s - homesteading at a time when success would come only with hard work, determination and sacrifice.

Love this!!! Our graphic designer Melanie Fabrizius designed this year's Bobcat t-shirt! Her design was chosen over dozens of others. Not only is she that good, and we're very proud of her, she's a Cat fan!! Go Cats! And Go Mel!! Video taken by Mel's sister Fabrizius Ryan

We need your help?!! We just published our 25th issue and we promise - it's a good one! And now we have to start thinking about our November issue. We're hoping to feature a couple of really authentic good guys/gals - you know, the ones that are the first to arrive when help is needed. The ones that volunteer hours and hours to everything from 4-H and FFA to helping out at school. The ones that organize a harvest team when a neighboring farmer needs help or when a rancher loses their fence line to fire. The behind the scenes worker bees that make sure the rodeo, or the fair, or the community event happens. Do you know who I'm talking about? Message me. I'd like to meet them!

In 1909 seven Stillwater County women set out to raise enough funds to build a much needed school in Absarokee. Today, another hand full of Absarokee women are trying to save that same school from demolition. Check out this story on Save the Sandstone. We published a story on their fight in our February issue. The battle continues. You can help them win!

A group of five women in Absarokee are working to preserve the historic Sandstone School, which was built in 1910 and closed in 2019.

We're getting a lot of comments about the cover of our new issue. My sister said it's because the girl and the dog remind readers of someone - themselves, their daughter, their wife. We all know a girl and her dog! She said the dog reminded her of her childhood dog, Willie. "It brought a lot of memories back to me," she said. "Thanks for that!" Well...the words out. Our cover girl is Kenzie Holmberg, who is also the subject of one of our stories. She's an incredible photographer and her story of resilience and steadfastness will inspire you. She also joined me as the photographer when we interviewed Herb and Susan Russell (also in this issue.) If you haven't picked up our latest issue, it's on stands now. I think you'll like it! We were raised in the west!

Hi, we’re Stu and Cyd Hoefle. When we purchased Raised in the West a year ago we never dreamed what a fun experience we would have with it. We have crisscrossed the state looking for unique stories and fun photo shoots and in the process have found so many awesome people: writers, photographers, advertisers and of course people that have stories to tell.

Cyd, as a fourth generation Montanan, raised on a ranch along the Yellowstone River, has a deep appreciation for families with roots; ranchers hanging on into the 4th, 5th and sometimes 6th generation, doing what they love to do; people that have endured difficult situations and have come out better because of them.

Stu is a true Montana outdoors man, he grew up hunting, fishing, hiking and enjoying every water and snow sport there is. He has an artists eye and captures with his camera what Cyd captures with her words. Together, they, along with a team of writers and photographers are intent on finding stories of interest that are entertaining, educational and enlightening.

Please follow us on Facebook, Instagram and our website, raisedinthewest.com. Pick up our complimentary, quarterly magazine, read it online, or subscribe and let us know if you know someone with a story that needs to be told.
