It takes community effort to keep a town strong and thriving. Merchants, business-owners and residents are all stepping up to work on ways to move Big Timber forward in a healthy way while still preserving the small-town atmosphere that everyone loves. The women-owned businesses on main street are a great example of being there for one another, promoting each other's businesses and doing what they can to keep main street attractive and inviting. Check out their story in our latest issue of RITW - on stands now!

Our latest issue is here and our racks are full! It's a great issue! We sat with two of the original board members and the current director of the Chase Hawks Memorial Association who shared the non-profit's thirty-year history of helping families in crisis. We met with several main street women-owned businesses in Big Timber working together to help make the community healthy, vibrant and a fun place to shop. We trekked to Red Lodge and listened in as TJ and Les King broadcast their morning show on FM99 The Mountain and we heard about Sylvan Peak Mountain Shop's early history. In 1909 seven Stillwater County women set out to raise enough funds to build a much needed school in Absarokee. Today, another hand full of Absarokee women are trying to save that same school from demolition. Check out this story on Save the Sandstone. We published a story on their fight in our February issue. The battle continues. You can help them win!

A group of five women in Absarokee are working to preserve the historic Sandstone School, which was built in 1910 and closed in 2019.

We were raised in the west!

Hi, we’re Stu and Cyd Hoefle. When we purchased Raised in the West a year ago we never dreamed what a fun experience we would have with it. We have crisscrossed the state looking for unique stories and fun photo shoots and in the process have found so many awesome people: writers, photographers, advertisers and of course people that have stories to tell.

Cyd, as a fourth generation Montanan, raised on a ranch along the Yellowstone River, has a deep appreciation for families with roots; ranchers hanging on into the 4th, 5th and sometimes 6th generation, doing what they love to do; people that have endured difficult situations and have come out better because of them.

Stu is a true Montana outdoors man, he grew up hunting, fishing, hiking and enjoying every water and snow sport there is. He has an artists eye and captures with his camera what Cyd captures with her words. Together, they, along with a team of writers and photographers are intent on finding stories of interest that are entertaining, educational and enlightening.
