NEW: Photo highlights from yesterday’s storm chase in southeast Montana.

A tough day for me chase wise as multiple storms went up early west and south of Broadus. Decided the supercell near Broadus had the best potential but it was an absolute battle keeping up with it as the road network is basically a few ranch roads in that area. Eventually, I did catch up to it south of Ekalaka as it was producing 3 to 4 inch hail but it continued on into South Dakota where the roads became none existent. This storm came close to producing a few times with a rotating wall cloud observed off and on.

A second storm moved into the Ekalaka area with a photogenic shelf cloud which was nice for the return trip home.

All these storms moved into the Dakotas where they merged into a large complex with wind reports over 90 mph. A couple tornadoes were also reported. A busy day for severe weather.

MAJOR SEVERE THREAT TODAY - MODERATE RISK

An upgrade to a moderate risk has been introduced for eastern MT and the Dakotas for the potential development of a massive thunderstorm complex that will have the potential to produce destructive winds of 80-100 mph. Large hail and isolated tornadoes are also possible.

I am currently positioned near Broadus, MT and will provide updates later today.
