NEW THIS MORNING: A destructive storm tore through areas east of Billings, MT overnight causing significant damage to property in the Shepherd, Huntley and Worden communities.

Hail over 3 inches combined with damaging winds busted out windows, knocked power poles down and totaled vehicles all while most people were sleeping in the early am hours.

Unfortunately, our local weather office somehow missed this destructive, late season storm and no warnings were pushed out to alert people in the path. This may be one of the worst let downs I’ve ever seen by my local office in terms of failing the community. I have never publicly criticized any office but this is just too massive of a failure to ignore. There needs to be accountability so this never happens again, especially how obvious this was based on radar data. Inexcusable. Period.

Hail as large as 3 inches was reported north of Lewistown near Hilger.
