Fifth through eighth graders from across the Gulfport School District are taking part in a four-day AIG Winter Intersession Camp, exploring career fields including health sciences, robotics, STEM and multimedia. The camp gives students hands-on experience in various career fields, with participants rotating through different activities throughout the week.

“It’s fun. First rule we got is safety. Second rule, we have fun,” said Jervon Smith, a fifth grader>>>https://www.wlox.com/2026/01/08/gulfport-students-explore-careers-through-hands-on-winter-camp/

So, how is crawfish looking for 2026?

The last few weeks, supply has been a little tight. That’s mostly been due to the holiday stretch and fewer fishermen out in the ponds trapping, not because of any major issues with the crop.

The good news is this: we’ve had the cold fronts we needed, we’ve gotten some solid rains, and now the weather is starting to warm up a bit. That combination is exactly what this season needed.

From here on out, we should have crawfish when you’re looking for them.

Early season crawfish are known for some of the best peeling of the year. They’re freshly molted, which makes them easier to peel, and for a lot of people, this is their favorite time to order.

If you’re holding out for peak season, everything is lining up for another strong one. Conditions look good, and we’re expecting a great run when things really hit their stride.

And if you’re craving early season crawfish right now, give us a shout. We’ll get you the best prices guaranteed!

Beavers are often labeled a nuisance across Mississippi, blamed for flooding roads, damaging property and clogging culverts.

A nonprofit sanctuary in Hancock County is working to change that perception through rehabilitation, research and education focused on coexistence.

At Something Wild, beavers are not treated as a problem to be removed, but as a native species worth understanding. The organization rehabilitates injured and orphaned beavers while also conducting scientific research on their behavior, development and environmental impact

THANK YOU to the Sweetest Family right in our community for the deer scraps.

We fed some of the legs to our carnivores and they are currently having their lil snack and making happy sounds.

Not pictured~3 garbage bags with leg pieces.

Not pictured 10 two pound packs of ground deer frozen.

Amazing!

Thank you again. It was a pleasure to meet you and your Family.

Man oh man…do I have a fun story for y’all tomorrow 🥹🦫

I spent time with the sweetest beavers at Something Wild nonprofit, and let me tell you… they may look cute in photos, but in person they are even sweeter, calmer, and more lovable than you could imagine. ❤️

Catch the full story tomorrow afternoon at 5:30 and 10:00, where you’ll get a closer look at the incredible work being done to protect, care, research, and rehabilate these animals.

Huge thank you to Dr. Holley Muraco for welcoming me… I needed these animal snuggles more than you know. 🥰
