In collaboration with the team at Pitts Media, I was tasked with conceptualizing and writing several "hero" video advertisement concepts for LS Tractor, a global manufacturer of agricultural equipment, tractors and utility vehicles. This is the first in a series of ads to air on national and regional sports broadcasts during the third and fourth quarters of 2024.

Another reason to avoid Atlanta.

⚠️ Heads up if you're routing through Atlanta!

Starting Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, the Georgia Dept. of Transportation will close lanes in both directions on I-285 between Ashford Dunwoody Road and Roswell Road for bridge demolition and reconstruction over Glenridge Drive, SR 400, and Peachtree Dunwoody Road.

The eastbound closure will start first with the westbound closure following approximately two weeks later. This work and associated I-285 lane closures are anticipated to take eight months to complete. Motorists should expect profound delays and should avoid I-285 in this area if possible. If your route includes this area, rely on your preferred wayfinding apps for alternate routes and leave early.

Commercial vehicle traffic is required to use I-285 to bypass Atlanta, and with Georgia ranked as a top 5 crash state for CMVs traveling through construction zones, crashes are more likely to occur during the first weeks of the beginning of construction. Please use caution when traveling through those areas.

In my two decades of documenting the stories of Alabama’s trucking industry and its community of talented businessmen and women, I can say without reservation that no one impacted it more in that time than Buddy Moore of Buddy Moore Trucking.

I will cherish my time with him having coffee in his office looking over his handwritten ledger sheets while discussing the industry and his views of the trucking way of life.

It was a joke among some that he was the “Unofficial Godfather of the Alabama Trucking Mafia.”

I’m not so sure that wasn’t really the case.

He was a force to be reckoned with for sure, but only because he worked harder and smarter than everyone else. He was a brilliant trucking operator. He didn’t want to be the biggest out there, he just wanted to be the best.

He died peacefully at his home this week surrounded by his family. He was 88. I was honored to be asked to write a tribute to him on behalf of the Alabama Trucking Association.

Godspeed, Mr. Buddy.

Some things are truly a labor of love. Like writing this piece for the Alabama Trucking Association’s membership publication, Alabama Trucker.

My entire career in journalism and communications has been filled with stories about blue collar workers making their mark in some of the most demanding and dangerous occupations. Each time I sought and found something that makes that person stand out. Over time, I learned to intensely respect these individuals for their tenacity, self reliance and pride.

Everyone has a story — remember that.
