The city of Vestavia Hills ended fiscal 2025 in a strong financial condition, with total revenues increasing 4% from fiscal 2024 to $84.2 million and the city’s general fund balance growing 5.3% to $33.3 million, according to the 2025 audit that was recently approved. Vestavia Hills City Manager Jeff Downes on Monday proposed the city spend $146 million in fiscal 2027, which would be an 18.5% increase from planned expenditures this year. Most of the proposed increased spending would be one-time spending of $34 million for capital projects, but there is debate about which capital projects should take priority. An east-side library was left out of the 2027 budget proposal. See more:
