Because this pic was dope! Happy Black Philanthropy Month. đź–¤
Barbie Dream Night was a reminder that philanthropy does not always start with writing a big check.
Sometimes it starts with seeing a need, creating an experience, bringing people together, and using what you already have to open doors for someone else.
That is also the heart of sports philanthropy.
Athletes have influence, relationships, visibility, and access that can be used to create real opportunities in their communities.
If you are an athlete who wants to start your philanthropy journey the right way, start with these 3 things:
-Choose a cause that is personal to you.
Do not just pick what sounds good. Pick something you genuinely care about.
-Create a program, not just an event.
Think beyond one camp or giveaway. What can you build that creates ongoing impact?
-Start tracking your impact.
Who did you serve? What changed? What resources were provided? These details matter when you begin seeking sponsors, grants, and partners.
Your platform can do more than build your brand.
It can build opportunity for somebody else while generating the funding to support the dream.
That is sports philanthropy. 🏀🖤
