I was at a Friendsgiving this week where one of the topics of conversation was who everyone thought would win Dancing with the Stars. One of the attendees proceeded to show everyone that you could ask Google AI who the winner of the 2025 Dancing with the stars season was and it would give you an answer even though the final round hadn’t happened yet. Many of the other attendees were shocked and awed by this letting out exclamations of “How does it know?” and “Wow, AI really can predict the future!”

I proceeded to explain how AI works to answer questions by searching the web and performing a quick analysis of existing digital resources. So in this case, it likely read through articles and blogs and existing social media conversations related to DWTS to pull information on what others viewing the show were thinking and gave an educated guess. I also explained how if different people asked this question they were likely to get different answers since Google would pull in more relevant sources to that person’s digital footprint. For instance someone who is an avid DWTS watcher and has been rooting for Robert Irwin and may have searched for his social media on their accounts before would be more likely to be shown results leading to him as the winner.

They were truly shocked that this is how AI works! It was extremely interesting to me to see how others perceived AI based on this conversation.

As someone with a background in search engine and digital marketing I felt this was obvious, but it’s truly not something everyone would innately know and made me wonder, how do most people in the general American population think AI technology works? Do most people just think it’s a super computer with amazing technology and have no idea how it works? Do they not question it?

I'll say it again for the people in the back:

❌ AI doesn’t predict the future — it reads the internet.
❌ It doesn’t know everything — it analyzes
everything.

And sometimes… that’s even more powerful.

So now I’m curious —
💭 Do most people just trust AI answers without
questioning how it works?
💭 Do people think it has some kind of built-in crystal
ball?

On October 1, 2020, I took a big leap of faith and signed the paperwork to start my marketing business and I am so thankful for the wonderful journey it has been! I have been working with Ash and Ivy Salon since May on basic social media management and I am so THRILLED about the progress we've seen! We've taken a *silent* account and turned it into one that consistently engages with trends, shows off their services, and has garnered new stylists and new clients! 🎉

It's ! 🎉 I'm thankful to have worked with talented students from universities across the South since 2021, and this summer I was blessed with TWO wonderful interns from my alma mater, The University of Georgia! 🐾 Meet Lauren and Hayley! 👇

Lauren says, "I’m so excited to be joining Oliver & Co this summer! I’m an Advertising major with a Studio Art minor at the University of Georgia, heading into my senior year. In my free time, I love painting, playing guitar, and singing. One of my favorite parts of working with social media and small businesses is helping bring a brand’s voice to life. A fun fact about me: I’m a huge dog lover—and I paint commissioned pet portraits in my free time!"
