This video starts from 33,000 feet over Huntsville Alabama just before we begin the approach and descent into ATL. Includes the last 40 minutes of the flight and taxiing to the gate from the far south runway at ATL.

Another of my recent flight videos, this one without GPS data (it didn't capture). On this flight we departed PHX early in the morning at 6:05am, about a half hour after sunrise. After takeoff on runway 7L we continued east with only slight turns. This took us over Phoenix's eastern suburbs of Mesa, Apache Junction, and the Superstition Mountains. Since we were still fairly low we had some awesome views of the mountains and we followed the Salt River pretty much from the airport all the way to Roosevelt Lake. Video ends at about the time we reached cruising altitude of 33,000 feet on our way eastward toward Atlanta.

Bonus footage is now up....all of it! The entire uncut 3 hour 41 minute flight with GPS:

I know its been a while since I've added new content but I've been trying out some new things. One is filming flight videos and displaying them with GPS data for the full "aviation geek" experience :) This is part 1 of a 3.5 hour flight - takeoff from Atlanta. The direction and speed are accurate (speed is displayed as mph not the aviation standard knots - divide by 1.151 to convert) but the altitude is off due to the difference between GPS versus a typical pressure-corrected altimeter setting. Part 2 (the landing) will be coming soon!

Takeoff and climb out of Delta flight 1772 from Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport. Video starts with pushback at gate A19 and includes great views of Atlanta and ...

The Santa Monica Airport, 6 miles north of LAX, is the historic home of the Douglas Aircraft Company dating back more than 90 years. DAC moved south to Long Beach when residents objected to lengthening the runway in the 50s so they could build the big DC-8s. It has been serving the needs of local general aviation community ever since but now a group of liberal NIMBYs have succeeded in forcing the airport to close for good. If they don't like the noise a Learjet makes then they shouldn't buy a house next to it - the airport has been there longer than most residents. Sad news indeed. They have an excellent (and popular) viewing deck so if you're in the LA area in the next 6 months head up there and take in the sights before they bring in the bulldozers to rip it up.
