How do you handle dating as a parent… without being controlling, reactive, or completely overwhelmed?

In today’s episode, we’re pulling back the curtain on how we actually approached dating in our home. Not perfectly, but intentionally.

If dating is coming (or already here) in your home, this conversation will give you a framework that builds wisdom, not just rules.

šŸŽ§ Listen now and start the conversation.

Read that again.

Because most adults are still learning this.

We have to teach our kids:
Kindness ≠ self-abandonment

They can be respectful AND have boundaries.

Hey teen,

You don’t have to answer every text.
You don’t have to keep the conversation going.
You don’t have to shrink yourself so someone else doesn’t get upset.

If it feels like too much… it probably is.

You’re allowed to have limits.
You’re allowed to say no.
You’re allowed to take up space.

Most parents wait too long to talk about dating.

By the time there’s a ā€œwe’re talkingā€ā€¦
your teen is already navigating it.

In this episode, we break down the conversations to have before it even begins.

Before you make dating rules for your kids… can I challenge you to pause for a second?

Because let’s be honest…
they’re not dating the way we did.

So instead of jumping straight to rules, try asking yourself:

šŸ’ What is the real principle behind this old rule?
šŸ’ How can we maintain that principle in today’s culture?
šŸ’ If there’s no clear principle, is the rule still necessary?

Because at the end of the day, it’s not really about who texts first or what age they start dating.

It’s about teaching self-respect.
Emotional maturity.
And how to build healthy relationships.

That’s the conversation we’re having in Episode 13.

And honestly… it might change the way you think about dating as a parent.

Dating has changed.
The rules we grew up with don’t always apply.

So how do we guide our kids well?

We stop focusing on rules…
and start teaching principles.

Maybe it’s not just about what we do as parents…
but how it feels to our kids.

This week’s journal is a reflection on that:
on curiosity over reaction,
conversation over control,
and what our kids actually carry with them years later.

She doesn’t remember getting in trouble…
which feels questionable šŸ˜…

But honestly, that might say more about how we handled it than how often it happened.
We talk about it in Episode 12.

šŸŽ™ļø New episode is live… and my daughter told the truth šŸ˜…

Episode 12 of Raise and Release is a real conversation with my daughter about what it was actually like growing up with me as her mom.

We talk about:
– getting in trouble (which she claims barely happened šŸ˜†)
– why our consequences actually made sense (most of the time)
– the dress code incident that turned into a life lesson
– how reputation follows you (even in middle school)

…and my big parenting fail.

But we also talk about the things that mattered more than getting it right.

Her biggest takeaway?

She didn’t always agree with us…
but she understood where we were coming from.

That’s the goal.

If you’ve ever wondered how your parenting actually lands with your kids, this one’s worth the listen.

ā¤ļø Friday Journal Drop
The long game of parenting is quieter than we think… and it asks us to look further ahead than today’s battles.
This week’s journal post is an invitation to slow down, reflect, and ask ourselves the questions that actually shape our kids’ futures.

ā¤ļø Thursday truth bomb from this week’s episode:
Your kids don’t need more rules. They need to feel your heart behind them.

If they’re getting more control, fear, and commands than coaching, faith, and care… it’s time for the PR Makeover.
