Happy Release Day to Johnny Coley and friends! The Mister Sweet Whisper LP is out today via Sweet Wreath and , featuring Johnny in collaboration with Joel Nelson, Jasper Lee, Jacquie Cotillard, Ryan Brown and James Elliott.

Tapping into French surrealism and transgressive American poets such as John Ashbery,
the songs in Mister Sweet Whisper evolve, cinema-like, with Coley as an uninhibited, almost
mystical, narrator. Textural, noirish playing complements Coley’s decadent landscapes, which
glide by like cigarette smoke invocations. Echoing, and at times, dissonant notes of saxophone,
crystalline tones of vibraphone, and jagged guitar arrangements punctuate Coley’s dreamlike
visions, populated by ballet dancers, haunting nightclubs, and ghostly car drivers.

Wistful and expansive, the songs in Mister Sweet Whisper speak of Coley’s talent and natural
ability to channel his poetic world into songs. A remarkable follow-up to Coley’s first two albums—
Antique Sadness, from 2021, and Landscape Man, from 2022—which were praised as “exquisitely
haunting, sublime, hilarious” and falling “somewhere between Robert Ashley, David Wojnarowicz,
and Intersystems,” Mister Sweet Whisper arrives in full form: unpredictable and brilliant.

Sweet Wreath & The Flourish present a free radio art festival broadcasting sounds & seeds for people & pollinators.
An all-day sonic art installation at Birmingham's Railroad Park for all ages to experience in person or via live broadcast.
Musical performances and special talks on ecology will be transmitted from a series of bamboo radio towers in the field! You can make fabric collages or weave ribbons to add to these organic sculptures as sounds mingle in the spring air.

ALSO! : a cassette tent where you can record impressions of the local landscape, a workshop on planting milkweed for monarch butterflies, along with free zines & free seed packets!

Great News! We have received a Verdant Fund grant for the Sweet Wreath Speaks Radio Art Festival!
Thank you to .fund for supporting this project! We are co-hosting the event with and have a wild lineup of performers including: and Mother Harmony!

Mark your calendar for March 16 & come to Railroad Park in Birmingham!

Sweet Wreath Speaks! is a free radio art festival broadcasting sounds & seeds for people and pollinators. An all-day radio art installation at Birmingham's Railroad Park featuring listening experiences, collaborative crafts, free zines & free wildflower seeds.

Centered around a bamboo radio tower installation at Railroad Park, this participatory broadcasting event will be accessible to all to experience in person or remotely via live broadcast from Noon to 8pm on Saturday March 16, 2024.

The program will include listening sessions, talks on ecology from local naturalists, poets & farmers and a recording tent for visitors to share thoughts about their local landscape. Our mission is to direct ears & voices to the land and its creatures through the power of sound.

Sweet Wreath has been supporting the work of experimental musicians and writers in Alabama and beyond since 2016! Next year is shaping up to be an exciting one as we prepare to release more magic music, books and host a first-ever radio art festival! More details on that soon, but for now we'd like to ask for your help in getting these projects to press and out to the world

Consider donating to our fundraiser at the link in our bio! We are raising funds to pay artists at the radio festival in March, and press upcoming albums by Johnny Coley, Silica Gel, Green Plum Ensemble, Jimmy Griffin and others!
