Happy 118th Founders’ Day, Sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®!

On this special day, January 15, 1908, nine phenomenal women at Howard University lit a spark that grew into a vibrant, global sisterhood.

From Miner Hall to the world, we now stand over 360,000 strong across 12 nations, the U.S., Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, UAE, Germany, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, South Korea, South Africa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, united in purpose, service, and sisterly love.

As we continue to Soar to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood under the 2022–2026 Administration, we honor the extraordinary legacy of our Founders and celebrate the generations of women who carry their vision forward.

Here’s to 118 years of impact, elegance, leadership, and love. And here’s to soaring even higher—together! 🩷💚

Today, we honor Rosa Parks—an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.—whose courage on December 1, 1955, sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and changed history. Long before that key day, Mrs. Parks served as an NAACP organizer, fighting against racial terror and advocating for justice. Her refusal to give up her seat wasn't due to physical exhaustion but because she was "tired of giving in." Seventy years later, Omicron Omega continues her legacy of steadfast dignity, resistance to injustice, and meaningful community action.

Omicron Omega is proud to celebrate our chapter member, Councilwoman Carla Flakes, on being sworn in to represent District 3 in Fairfield, Alabama!

Councilwoman Flakes, we are confident your vision and commitment to excellence will make a meaningful difference in the lives of Fairfield residents. Wishing you continued success as you embark on this new chapter of servant leadership!

Today, the Omicron Omega Chapter is honored to share snippets of a powerful conversation between RaSheda Workman, CEO of YWCA Central Alabama, and our undergraduate partners, the Iota Phi Chapter (UAB).

As Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to a close, our commitment does not. Ending domestic violence requires vision, resources, and unwavering commitment from all of us. RaSheda's message resonates deeply: "Lean into the community and into things that are bigger than yourself. The path you are supposed to be on is the place where passion meets purpose."

This graduate-undergraduate collaboration is a call to action for the next generation of servant leaders. To every young public servant: find your passion, discover your purpose, and join the movement. Our communities need your voice, your energy, and your dedication to strengthening families and promoting peace and justice.

The work continues. Will you answer the call?
