Judge Mary Windom, Presiding Judge of the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, announced today that she is running for re-election to her fourth and final term in office.

A Republican, Judge Windom was elected first in 2008, and has been re-elected three times to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals. Judge Windom was elected by her fellow judges to be Presiding Judge in 2012.

“It has been my honor to serve all of the people of Alabama in this important judgeship,” she said. “My priorities haven’t changed. I believe in justice for all, especially victims of crime.

“I am not interested in making law. That’s the job of the Alabama Legislature. The law says what it means, and it means what it says.”

Under Judge Windom’s leadership as Presiding Judge, the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has worked effectively and efficiently. The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals is one of the nation’s busiest courts with the sixth largest caseload per judge in the nation.

“I am grateful to my colleagues on the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals for their confidence in electing me to serve as Presiding Judge and for the collegiality that exists among us,” Judge Windom said. “It has certainly helped in the fair and speedy administration of justice.”

Judge Windom practiced privately and served as an Assistant United States Attorney and a Deputy Attorney General prior to her election in 2008.

She is married to former Lt. Gov. Steve Windom. They have two sons and four grandchildren. The Windoms reside in Tallapoosa County and are members of the Church of Christ.
