Across North America, designers, engineers, and facility managers have spent the past two decades tightening the building envelope, reducing uncontrolled air leakage, improving insulation and optimizing energy performance.

But this advancement has created a new challenge: when smoke, fine particulates, and other pollutants enter these sealed environments, they have a tendency to stay there.

High-efficiency, independently certified HVAC filtration has become a key control measure in this evolving context. A Certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly® HVAC filter, tested to rigorous scientific standards, provides a validated approach to capturing airborne allergens and fine particles, helping maintain cleaner indoor air even when outdoor conditions are challenging. - AAFA's asthma & allergy friendly Certification Program & Filtrete

Increasing responsibilities and pressures necessitate new approaches to the design and construction processes.

For many building enclosure projects, allowances must be made to identify, thoroughly assess, and brainstorm better options to address anticipated and unforeseen challenges.

While multiple project delivery methods exist, two of the most popular approaches in use today are Design-Bid-Build and Design-Assist. - Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope

Architecture students from The Catholic University of America will build a massive floating spaceframe in the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., using sustainable materials and new technology that was designed in part by a student and professor at the University.

This new approach could revolutionize spaceframe design and construction to be more sustainable, efficient, flexible, and affordable. Spaceframes appear in everything from geodesic domes and long-span roofs to solar arrays, aerospace systems, stadiums, and entertainment venues like The Sphere in Las Vegas.
