🍁📚 Fall is the coziest reading season of all! 📚🍁

When the air turns crisp and the leaves start to fall, there’s nothing better than curling up with your kids, a blanket, and a good story. Whether your little one loves pumpkins, football, or friendly dinosaurs, these 11 fall books will help your family celebrate the season in the sweetest way.

Here are a few picks we love from Metro Parent’s new reading guide 👇

💍 The Scarecrows’ Wedding by Julia Donaldson (Ages 2–6)
Two lovable scarecrows plan the perfect fall wedding—until a troublemaker tries to steal the show!

🎃 The Ugly Pumpkin by Dave Horowitz (Ages 3–5)
A heartwarming story about a lonely pumpkin learning to love what makes him different.

🍂 There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves by Lucille Colandro (Ages 3–5)
The classic character is back—this time swallowing everything autumn!

🌶️ Armadilly Chili by Helen Ketteman (Ages 4–8)
A Texas twist on The Little Red Hen with a lesson about friendship (and chili!).

🐾 A Silly Milly Fall by Sheri Wall (Ages 4–8)
See the joys of fall through the eyes of a Great Dane who loves football, leaves, and Thanksgiving treats.

🌕 Our Moon Festival by Yobe Qiu (Ages 4–8)
A beautiful, diverse story exploring how families across Asia celebrate the Moon Festival.

🏈 Dino-Football by Lisa Wheeler (Ages 5–9)
Dinosaurs take the field for the Mega Bowl! A fun pick for sports fans and dino lovers alike.

🍁 The Very Last Leaf by Stef Wade (Ages 5–7)
Lance Cottonwood must face his fear of falling in this funny and inspiring read about bravery and change.

Reading together builds connection, imagination, and a lifelong love of stories. So grab a mug of cocoa, pull your kids close, and make this fall a season to remember. ☕🍂❤️

🎈🥁 Detroit parents — get ready for one of the city’s most magical mornings of the year! 🎅✨

The 99th America’s Thanksgiving Parade is marching down Woodward Avenue this Thanksgiving morning, bringing larger-than-life balloons, colorful floats, marching bands, and of course, Santa himself! 🎺🎉

Here’s what to know before you go:

🕗 When: 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27
📍 Where: Woodward Ave. from Kirby to Congress (through Midtown & Downtown Detroit)
🎟️ Cost: Free to watch from the sidewalks! Grandstand seating is available for $60–$70.
🚗 Parking: Streets close early, so plan ahead and buy parking in advance.
👶 Kid tips: Best for ages 4+, and little ones might prefer watching the broadcast on WDIV Local 4 from home.
🚫 FYI: No strollers, wagons, or scooters in the grandstands; bring small bags only.

👀 Pro tip for families: Arrive early, bundle up, and pick a meeting spot just in case you get separated. Portable restrooms are located along the route, and wheelchair-accessible viewing areas are available in select spots.

🎭 Want to make it even more special? Families can also volunteer behind the scenes — helping build floats or sew costumes with The Parade Company. Kids 16+ (with an adult) can join too!

Plan your day at Detroit’s Thanksgiving Parade with start times, parking, tips for kids and what families should know before parade day.

🦃✨ It’s turkey time, Metro Detroit! ✂️🐥

The countdown to Thanksgiving is on, and that means one thing — crafting season! Whether you’ve got toddlers who love glue sticks or older kids who can handle more detailed projects, these adorable turkey crafts will keep everyone busy (and your table festive) before the big feast. 🎨🍂

Here are a few of our favorite ideas for families to try:
🦃 Thankful Turkey Book: Have your kids write what they’re thankful for on each page of their own handmade turkey book — a sweet keepsake to look back on next year. ❤️
🍬 Candy Corn Turkey: Got leftover Halloween candy? Put it to good use by creating a colorful turkey using candy corn for feathers! 🍭
🌲 Felt and Pinecone Turkey: Head outside to find pinecones, then turn them into rustic little turkeys with felt and glue. Perfect for decorating your Thanksgiving table. 🌾
👜 No-Glue Turkey Puppet: No glue? No problem! This fun, mess-free craft uses double-stick tape to make a cute turkey bag puppet kids can play with right away. 🎭

These crafts are simple, inexpensive, and a great way to keep kids entertained while teaching them about gratitude and creativity. Plus, most can be made using materials you already have around the house! 🙌

🧡 So before you sit down for turkey and pie, grab some markers, paper, and a little imagination — and make something that will have the whole family smiling.
