We have exciting news!

Alabama Prison Birth Project now has a new organizational home! We're pleased to announce that we have officially joined WAWC Healthcare, a Tuscaloosa-based organization dedicated to reproductive and maternal health care for Alabamians.

By working alongside WAWC Healthcare, we're creating new opportunities to collaborate, deepen our impact, and expand the support available to incarcerated pregnant and postpartum people and their families. This partnership reflects our longstanding commitment to building stronger connections here in Alabama.

While our former affiliation with Ostara Initiative has concluded, our mission remains the same: to improve pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting experiences for incarcerated people and their families across Alabama. We're excited to continue growing with partners who are invested in maternal health justice for all families in Alabama.

We can't wait to share what's ahead!

Feel Good Friday story: Birmingham Reentry Alliance case manager Stacey Adair Fuller, working in partnership with committed service providers across the city, has assisted dozens of returning citizens in finding housing, stability and the determination to succeed following incarceration.

We recently celebrated the work of the Alliance, alongside critical supporters including Birmingham City Council Pro Tem Latonya Tate and Alanah L Melton, Director of Unhoused Strategies for the Mayor’s Office.

Alliance clients receive housing assistance, connections to ID services, healthcare, substance use treatment and workforce training. And the ever-important case management to hold it all together.

Appleseed is proud to join with nonprofits across Birmingham to provide these services in a holistic, coordinated way.
