KBRP LP 96.1 FM Bisbee

KBRP LP 96.1 FM Bisbee KBRP 96.1 Bisbee is a low watt, community radio station staffed mostly by volunteers. Live programming began on the Winter Solstice, December 21, 2004.

In 1997, a group of local visionaries in the border town of Bisbee, Arizona, formed the Bisbee Radio Project, Inc. Located in the mile-high Mule Mountains in the northern Chihuahuan desert, Bisbee comprises a community of former copper miners, artists, bikers, writers, dancers, musicians, and similar free spirits—truly an eclectic mix of residents. Located in the heart of Brewery Gulch KBRP 96.1 F

M, went on the air with automated programming on November 21, 2004. In December of 2005, funds were raised within the community to hoist the antenna from the low point in Brewery Gulch to the top of the Central School Project bell tower. This strategic placement more than doubled the number of listeners who dwell in the winding canyons of the Mule Mountains. In 2008, KBRP moved its office and broadcast studios to the Central School Project. We remained there until 2015, when KBRP settled into part of the downtown theater known as the Bisbee Royale. In June 2021, the station moved again to its current home on the second floor of the Bisbee Mercantile Building. This site allows greater accessibility to the public, and space for a variety of community activities. Our dedicated volunteers devote their time and talents to manage all aspects of the radio station. Regular activities include: live broadcasting, studio-to-transmitter technology, implementing FCC rules and regulations, library and database maintenance, fund raising, and the experience of creating and working together. We are introducing new programming featuring local news and community affairs. And of course, live DJs bringing an incredible range of musical entertainment to our audiences. KBRP is a bustling hub of activity, creation, and fun. Our inspiration and guidance for this labor of love is expressed in our mission statement:

“The mission of KBRP is to maintain a community media center dedicated to creating an awareness of local interests and socially responsible programming. KBRP…through its cooperative structure, aims to entertain and enrich…with a broad mix of education, culture, art, humanities and music.”

Sound Adventures with Helen - Thursday 7-9pm. Repeat show from Monday honoring the kora (21-string lute harp) master Foday Musa Suso from Guinea, West Africa. Sadly, Mr. Suso died in 2025. He collaborated with western musicians in his band, Mandingo Griot Society, and with Herbie Hancock, Don Cherry, the Kronos Quartet, Phillip Glass and more. Also, you'll hear djole drumming from West Africa and the wonderful singer and kora player Mory Kante. Tune in to KBRP 96.1 Bisbee or listen to the stream or archive on KBRPradio.com.

Mike Thornton here and I need your help!

I’m learning a lot (or at least I think I am) about the many facets of Internet Culture when it comes to Young Conservatives including the “Manosphere” “Groypers” and the profoundly different ideologies that exist amongst young Conservatives.
Being a “Geezer” I don’t know any of these folks. But I’m hoping you might!
I’d like to have someone (preferably local) on “KBRP’s Weekly Magazine” to discuss these things!
If you can help make this happen, it will be greatly appreciated!
Shoot me an email: [email protected]

TIA

❤️‍🔥This month's Live From Studio B artist is Ian Martinez () ❤️‍🔥

Hailing from Douglas, Arizona & having been in the Bisbee music scene the last few years, we couldn't wait to get him in the studio! A virtuoso at the 12 string guitar & multi-genre artist, Ian blew us away with his rendition of "Jugaste y Sufri" by Eslabon Armado.

Catch his full performance and interview TOMORROW from 2-3 pm MST streaming at kbrpradio.com or on 96.1 FM Bisbee! Full performance video will also be posted on our YouTube channel! Link in bio ⚡️

On This Week's Edition of "KBRP's Weekly Magazine" (with host Mike Thornton) in the 9am Hour our guest will be activist and musician Cado Daily. We'll be talking about the "Power to the People Resistance Music Festival" taking place in Bisbee on Saturday January 3rd at Oldfield Oasis featuring David Rovics and a number of local musicians gathering together to kickoff a year of Political Resistance through Music and returning "Power to the People"!
We need a hell of a lot more of that! Oh yes, the views and opinions do not reflect (you know the rest).
But they probably should!
In the 10am Hour we'll be joined by Cynthia Conroy and Charles Flanagan of "Bisbee Vogue". The Organization's mission is to "create, promote and support initiatives that enhance economic vitality, health and wellness of citizens of Southern Arizona."
How to go about doing this has been a spirited and ongoing topic in Bisbee for a long time!
We're really looking forward to having "Bisbee Vogue" on the program!

Our Story

Creating a community-run radio where there was none has been a true challenge for Bisbeeites, but the dream has become a reality. Participant Members dedicate their time and talents to manage all aspects of the radio station and are learning the myriad skills involved in running a full-time radio: studio-to transmitter technology, FCC rules and regulations, digital broadcasting, library maintenance and the production of programs, software programming, web design, news gathering, fund raising, database maintenance and the daily negotiation of creating and working together in community. KBRP was glad to make the move from the Brewery Gulch location to the Central School Project in the fall of 2008. September 2015 Bisbee Radio Project was gifted with The Bisbee Royale - WOW! KBRP started broadcasting from the Royale on Friday, December 2015 along with the best membership party yet, here in the theatre. What an incredible venue - a cultural events center, state of the art theater and KBRP 96.1 FM all here at 94 Main Street Bisbee. In 2018 we updated our website along with upgrading our streaming plus introduced archives of our live programs for the world to hear. The Bisbee Royale is a bustling hub of activity, creation, fun, movies, plays, concerts and a gathering place for political and social justice events. KBRP is a Pacifica Network Affiliate, a National Federation of Community Broadcasters Participant Member, and a member of the World Association of Radio Broadcasters, it shares programming with a world- wide network of radio stations. We just had our 2nd Spring Fund Drive end today, May 24, 2019 with another incredible membership party and tribute to our long time DJ Noah Suby whose last show was today. We will miss you! We are always happy to welcome new volunteers and old friends along with people passing through. One new event that we are starting with kindness and generosity of Bisbee Women’s Club is a children’s movie matinee on Sundays at 1pm through out the summer of 2019 along with continuing our Wednesday evening movie. We have a few concerts scattered through out the next few months. You can always find a schedule of events here at the Bisbee Royale on our website - KBRPRADIO.COM. Come check us out!
