KBRP LP 96.1 FM Bisbee

KBRP LP 96.1 FM Bisbee KBRP 96.1 Bisbee is a low watt, community radio station staffed mostly by volunteers. Live programming began on the Winter Solstice, December 21, 2004.

In 1997, a group of local visionaries in the border town of Bisbee, Arizona, formed the Bisbee Radio Project, Inc. Located in the mile-high Mule Mountains in the northern Chihuahuan desert, Bisbee comprises a community of former copper miners, artists, bikers, writers, dancers, musicians, and similar free spirits—truly an eclectic mix of residents. Located in the heart of Brewery Gulch KBRP 96.1 F

M, went on the air with automated programming on November 21, 2004. In December of 2005, funds were raised within the community to hoist the antenna from the low point in Brewery Gulch to the top of the Central School Project bell tower. This strategic placement more than doubled the number of listeners who dwell in the winding canyons of the Mule Mountains. In 2008, KBRP moved its office and broadcast studios to the Central School Project. We remained there until 2015, when KBRP settled into part of the downtown theater known as the Bisbee Royale. In June 2021, the station moved again to its current home on the second floor of the Bisbee Mercantile Building. This site allows greater accessibility to the public, and space for a variety of community activities. Our dedicated volunteers devote their time and talents to manage all aspects of the radio station. Regular activities include: live broadcasting, studio-to-transmitter technology, implementing FCC rules and regulations, library and database maintenance, fund raising, and the experience of creating and working together. We are introducing new programming featuring local news and community affairs. And of course, live DJs bringing an incredible range of musical entertainment to our audiences. KBRP is a bustling hub of activity, creation, and fun. Our inspiration and guidance for this labor of love is expressed in our mission statement:

“The mission of KBRP is to maintain a community media center dedicated to creating an awareness of local interests and socially responsible programming. KBRP…through its cooperative structure, aims to entertain and enrich…with a broad mix of education, culture, art, humanities and music.”

Happy Labor Day, my faithful Mystery Tourists. I hope you’re having a wonderful time and that it sets you up for the approaching fall season.

This week, we are commencing a 3 week special that was inspired by a show recently broadcast by Marsha Cassel here on KBRP LP 96.1 FM. Her show, ‘SheRocks’, airs every Tuesday from 12pm to 1. Last week’s show was recreating a summer concert with live recordings of great female artists. This got me thinking of what is arguably the biggest live concert ever staged.

Therefore, starting this week, we are going to be looking back to the Live Aid concert of 7/13/85. We are recreating the artist schedule over both the main venues, doing that with a mix of some tracks directly from the event, some others recreated from other live performances and others from studio recordings. Part 1 covers 12pm to 4pm in London and 9am to 11.15 in Philadelphia.

As always, you can catch the show live on KBRP LP 96.1 Bisbee at 1pm PT on Wednesday September 2nd with a rebroadcast on Saturday at 3pm. Also, after 4pm on Wednesday, you will be able to access the show on the archive section of kbrpradio.com.

Don’t forget that if you want to suggest a theme for the show, you can do it at KBRPradio.com or email the station at [email protected]. You can also leave a message on the Maggie’s Magical Mystery Tour page.

**Editor’s note - Many of you have negatively mentioned about using an AI image for the show. I have reached out to a couple of people who said they could help with a non-AI image that is updatable every week but never had a response. If anyone can help with providing such an image, please let me know. UPDATE - a couple of people have told me they are working on a solution. Watch this space. FURTHER UPDATE Someone has given me a lead to a resource that might work. I haven’t had the time to work with it this week but I promise I will do shortly. YET ANOTHER UPDATE - someone is now researching graphics programs and is actively looking into providing an updated image for the show. We need to give her some time to work with this but we are looking to have a non-AI image in the not too distant future. **

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday. Big hugs. 🤗🤗🤗🥰

Sound Adventures with Helen Monday 1-3pm and Thursday 7-9pm on KBRP FM 96.1 Bisbee or streaming on KBRPradio.com. You can also listen at your leisure in our archives on KBRPradio.com. This week a whole show of Beloved. One of my favorite Manding songs
Jarabi (also spelled Diarabi or Djarabi or Yarabi), a love song that first became popular with many kora players and guitarists in Mali, Gambia and Guinea in the early 1960’s.
Jarabi (“Beloved”) praises the all-conquering power of love and the song went on to become associated with the celebrations of community, nationhood and the African cultural renaissance that was flowering at the time that West African nations gained independence.
