I used to think that everything great and wonderful was what I would only find in the extraordinary moments..
The milestones, the achievements, the goals and the doing the things I had always wanted to do.
Funny thing is,
On my way to experiencing the amazingness of those prolific events, I found a greater truth that I’ll never forget.
The true joy and happiness were always right in front of me- in all the little moments and things that I once took for granted.
Whether it’s the hug of a friend I haven’t seen in a while,
The beauty of the sunset in all its splendor,
Even the kind compliment from a stranger..
All the joy and happiness I could ever want were always right there for me..
If I just started paying attention and being grateful.
Instead of asking why don’t I have this or that, I started saying how thankful I was for what I did have.
Loving my people that I was blessed to have in my life, learning to love myself better each and every day,
But most of all, just opening my eyes, listening to my heart and feeling with my soul.
It’s not a hard thing to be happy, thankful and aware..
But it’s not something that just falls in your lap, either.
It takes some effort, some humility and most of all, some gratitude.
Many years from now, when you look back over your life and smile, you’ll find the warm memories aren’t as much from the big events and momentous milestones, but the little stuff you discovered on the way to the big stuff.
So, as you start your day, start looking around your life and seeing the beauty in the moments that already surround you.
You’ll find that maybe, after all, the little things were the big things after all..
Start immersing yourself in all the moments and you might just be amazed at how wonderful your life truly is, after all.
