Have you noticed a change in a child or loved one?

Regular checks for signs of scoliosis can lead to early detection and better opportunities for treatment.

Use the cues in the image as a guide for early warning signs.

Subtle signs you may notice are:

🚨One shoulder higher than the other.

🚨One shoulder blade more prominent than the other.

🚨One hip or waist indent appears higher than the other.

🚨A visible S or C curve shape in the back.

Don’t watch and wait, make sure you see a scoliosis professional should you notice a change.

Have you ever wondered what you could be doing to be more proactive about a scoliosis diagnosis?

Here are our top 5 tips to help you take control of your own care!

1️⃣Get second opinions early - different providers will have different tools and suggestions.

2️⃣Never wait to get an X-Ray assessment - if you've been told there's a possible curve and haven't gotten X-Rays, get them!

3️⃣Explore Bracing Options.

4️⃣If there's a family history of scoliosis, get your child checked before the age of 10 for a spinal screening and follow at least every 6-12 months through the age of 14.

5️⃣Build your care team to manage scoliosis early. Your team may change, but getting ahead of the curve is extremely important.

4 Tips for adulting with scoliosis during the college years:

1️⃣The recommendations for adults with a brace change from full time wear in your high school years to 6-8 hours of wear in the college years. If your brace still fits, talk to your care provider about continuing to wear it part-time.

2️⃣You will need to find new care providers in your new community for college. Talk to your care provider to find out who they can refer you to for chiropractic care, massage therapy, and any other care providers you need to connect with.

3️⃣Communicate your expectations clearly to your new care providers and be sure to include past care routines.

4️⃣Choosing a pro-active care plan of regular chiropractic care helps keep your bio-mechanics as normal as possible. This means it can help your spine have better movement, help your discs stay healthy, and have a better overall quality of life.

A common phrase we hear in the chiropractic world is this: “Oh, I’ve just got bad posture.”

But here’s the thing: We all have scenarios that we can relate to where we aren’t sitting with good posture.

However, there’s a difference between bad posture from sitting in a cramped spot all day versus daily issues of not being able to sit up or stand up straight because of back pain or muscle pain.

Listen to episode 23 as Dr. Mandy gives you things to consider about your posture and scoliosis. It’s not just your posture – it could be something else.
