Here is a new interview with project team member Dr. Satsuki Ina, including more about the memorial courtyard in progress. Please share widely!

Welcome to “Snow Country Prison Memorial,” a Japanese American page dedicated to 3 things:
1) raising awareness about the shared history of Japanese Americans interned at Fort Lincoln, North Dakota (also known as the Bismarck ”detention facility”) during World War II.
2) connecting descendants and relatives of the Issei men who were imprisoned at Fort Lincoln (now part of the United Tribes Technical College, or UTTC)
3) promoting the creation and construction of a memorial courtyard at the UTTC.

We’ll be introducing the team behind this page, giving historical context for the site, and providing exciting updates about the courtyard now in progress (2024).
