HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR WANTED...

This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of city roads and streets.
Examples of Duties
• Participates in a variety of snow and ice removal operations, on call 24/7 during winter months, operating 12 hour shifts 7 days a week during snow and ice fighting operations.
• Operates a backhoe, front-end loader, motor grader, and other heavy equipment.
• Makes asphalt street repairs with paver, roller, durapatcher, hotbox and cold mix patch; seals cracks.
• Operates brine making equipment.
• Operates a street sweeper to clean city streets.
• Installs traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Operates tractor and bush hog to maintain rights-of-way.
• Maintains radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information.
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Sets up and assists in traffic control at work sites.
• Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class B driver’s license with air brakes and tanker endorsement issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated, obtained within six months of employment.

Mandan, N.D. - The annual Buggies-n-Blues Car Show returns to Downtown Mandan on Sunday, June 14, 2026, bringing hundreds of classic cars, live entertainment, food vendors, and thousands of visitors to Main Street for one of North Dakota’s premier automotive events.

Main Street Closure. To accommodate vehicle staging, the car show, and event teardown, Main Street will be closed to through traffic from Third Ave NE to Sixth Ave NW from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. Portions of intersecting avenues from Main Street to the alley within the event area will also be closed for the duration of the event.

Temporary Ave Closure. Third Ave NE and Second Ave NE will be temporarily closed for vehicle staging and are expected to reopen at approximately 11 a.m. once all show vehicles have been positioned.

No Parking. No parking will be permitted on Main Street, the parking lots on the south side of Main Street within the event area, or on intersecting avenues included in the closure zone beginning early Sunday morning. Vehicles parked in restricted areas may be subject to towing to ensure safe access for participants, vendors, and emergency services.

Detour. Due to construction on First Street from Sixth Ave NW to Fourth Ave NW, motorists are encouraged to use Second Street and First Street as alternate routes around the event area. West Main Street access to local businesses, including Runnings and the Morton-Mandan Public Library, will remain open.

Truck Route. Truck traffic should utilize the designated alternate truck route by turning south on Sixth Ave SE, west on 19th St SE, to Highway 6, and returning to West Main Street to avoid delays and congestion in downtown Mandan.

Residents and visitors should also expect increased pedestrian traffic throughout the Buggies-n-Blues weekend, June 12–14, particularly around Main Street and Dykshoorn Park during the Food Truck Festival, live music performances, and Sunday Car Show activities. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, watch for pedestrians, and allow extra travel time.

City of Bismarck Christmas Tree collection will be January 5 through January 15, 2026, on your regular scheduled garbage collection day. The Christmas trees collected are recycled. They are taken to the Bismarck landfill and ground into wood chips.

Before placing your tree out for collection reminders:
• Remove all lights, ornaments, and stands from the tree.
• Make sure the tree is not wrapped in any plastic or placed inside a plastic bag.
• Christmas trees will be picked up on the regular scheduled collection day.
• Christmas trees will be picked up at the regular collection point.
• Apartment Complexes should set Christmas trees by the dumpster for collection.
• A separate truck will collect the Christmas trees to be recycled.

Monday - Saturday: 6:00 am – 4:00 pm
Sundays & Designated Holidays: Closed
