The Village of Waunakee recognizes November as Native American Heritage Month. Throughout this month, we are flying the Ho-Chunk flag in recognition that Waunakee is located on the ancestral territory of the Ho-Chunk Nation.
As part of Native American Heritage Month, the Ho-Chunk Nation Traveling Exhibit is on display at the Waunakee Public Library through November 30. The exhibit, created in partnership with the Ho-Chunk Nation Museum and Cultural Center and the UW-Madison UniverCity Program, this traveling banner exhibit highlights the importance of Ho-Chunk language, culture, land, and relationships with nature. We encourage the community to stop by, explore the exhibit, and learn from these stories firsthand.
On September 20, 2021, the Village Board formally adopted our Land Acknowledgement. You can read it by clicking the link in our comments.
