WILD VIDEO: Fireworks malfunctioned during a post-game show at a Richmond Flying Squirrels game Thursday, sending sparks flying into the stands at CarMax Park.

No one was seriously injured, according to a team spokesperson, who said the Richmond Fire Department responded to the incident.

Alyssa Durden was at the game with her family and recorded this video on her phone.

"We were watching from the outfield with our kids, just enjoying the whole display, when initially we thought that they were using some sort of new ground level firework or something like that. Once we saw it hit the bullpen and pop up into the stands we realized some of the mortars must have fallen over. Our kids were understably scared. Thankfully no one was hurt," Durden said.

The Flying Squirrels said they are working with the fireworks vendor, Pyro Shows, to determine what caused the malfunction.

Pyro Shows confirmed the malfunction in a statement, saying its technicians followed company protocol and immediately terminated the show.

"We are actively investigating the root cause of the malfunction. We will be working hand-in-hand with the fire department and safety officials to determine the root cause of the malfunction," a statement from Pyro Shows said.

Pyro Shows also issued an apology to fans and the Flying Squirrels.

"Pyro Shows sincerely apologizes to all the fans and families in attendance during this distressing event. We extend our deepest apologies to the Flying Squirrels organization to include management, players, and staff for this unfortunate incident," the statement said.

Your Dominion Energy bill is expected to go up later this year.

A Dominion spokesperson told Taylor Locke starting July 1, you'll see an increase of about $8 per month. Then, in early 2027, you'll start paying an additional $2 a month.

Kelsey's face sorta says it all.

Some Richmond drivers are confused/frustrated with a new city ordinance regarding parking and city bike lanes.

It seems some drivers whose car tires were just touching the painted white buffer zone line that sits between the bike lane and parking lane awoke to tickets along Patterson Avenue.

A Richmond city councilperson admits rollout of the new enforcement, which went into effect May 1, was not the greatest.

"I believe the city should have implemented a warning period after the law was changed to give people time to understand the new standards, and also give the city time to clarify the standards,"
Richmond City Councilman Andrew Breton, who supported the ordinance, said. "The concerns I'm hearing are the concern that some of the parking lanes are not wide enough to comply, and so I think it's important that the city's engineers analyze how true that is. I've also heard the complaint that they didn't have enough time to learn about the new standards to adapt their parking methods, which I fully agree with when I approved this ordinance."

When asked how many tickets have been issued so far, Breton said he did not have a specific number.

"I'm not sure, but I've certainly gotten a lot of emails about it," Breton said.

A Richmond woman told Melissa Hipolit - WTVR CBS 6 she spent eight months trying to resolve a nearly $2,000 water bill.

The City of Richmond approved its budget Monday night. The budget included rate hikes for gas and water utilities as residents will soon pay, on average, about $14 more per month, Brendan King - WTVR CBS 6 reported.

Here's what Mayor Avula said when asked about the hikes and their impact on people who may be struggling financially.

"When you look at our utility operation, the lack of consistent investment it has had in the last decade-plus, it’s a reality of deferred investment. Now what we got to do is try to do a little catch-up to make sure, especially after [the water crisis] last January, to make sure that the system can sustain the growth the city is experiencing and the only way to do that is by continued investment," he said. "My message to residents of Richmond is that these are important investments that we need to make for the good of our community — for reliable water, for reliable utility service. We have got to do that work and know we are going to take that seriously."

UPDATE: I saw him walking away from Lane Stadium wearing a sling on his arm.

After a tense few minutes, firefighters rescued him and he appears to be OK. The Hokie crowd cheered as firefighters lowered him to safety.
