I remember the soul crushing feeling that came from my pre-veterinary advisor in undergrad as she uttered the words to me “Good luck getting to Vet School with these grades” 🫩

To all my pre-vet babies out there.. STOP LISTENING TO YOUR ADVISOR & FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! With a lot of determination, and an even larger amount of trust in God.. you’ll be standing here too 💞

Sincerely,

Someone who is so thankful to never see calculus, physics, and o-chem EVER again

Psalm 115:1 (TPT) — “Lord, you are the one who deserves that people praise you. They should praise only you, not us! You love us with a faithful love, and you always do what you have promised.”

I could write a book about this journey & it still wouldn’t be enough to explain the wild ride that is veterinary school.

Despite all the failed exams, friendship fallouts, and heartaches.. I wouldn’t have changed a single thing! God carried me through just as he promised & so he will ALWAYS get the glory!

MY VMCVM FAMILY, I LOVE YOU ALL & I’m so thankful to have made some of my best friends while I was here. They continuously show up for me & find ways to pour into my empty cup. Even in the midst of their own personal lives, their own rotations, and getting their own education. My heart couldn’t be more full! 💕

Welcome to a new chapter of my vet med career — THE GRADUATE ⭐️

See you all next time!

Sincerely,

THE OFFICIAL DR. STEVENS 💋

CELEBRATING THE END OF BLOCK 17 & THUS THE END OF VETERINARY SCHOOL! 🥹

Words can’t describe how I’m feeling right now especially because half of it doesn’t feel real. Like are you sure you don’t want me there at 8am to do something? anything? 💔

My last block was EFS (Equine Field Services) and I spent my whole three weeks with horses. If you know me, you know my allergies to horses in specific are pretty bad. So bad that when I was 12 I didn’t even finish my horse lessons 😭. But this block, we popped a Zyrtec, took an occasional inhaler puff and kept it moving.

I did some REALLY cool things this block & discovered that I do want to see horses on occasion. When I do .. it would be your typical equine GP duties like vaccines, coggin’s testing, dentals floats, etc. Drawing blood from horses is WAY more satisfying than in small animals 😬. Anywho, here’s more fun stuff I did this block:

1. Sutured an eyelid laceration (trust me there are two cruciates present on that laceration) 🪡

2. Pulled a ton of coggins & gave even more vaccines 🥰

3. Learned how to read horse language better 🤭

4. Finally found the heart on auscultation (i struggled w/ this so bad)😬

5. Placed my first bandage for A*M hock injections 🐎

6. Correctly diagnosed a few hind limb lameness issues

7. Took one too many podiatry radiographs 🫩

8. Went to loves & sheetz for the first time 🔥

9. Gave a lot of my lunch carrots out to the horses for being so good for exams

10. Practiced all of my horse breeds & colorings (thanks to my girl .childers for helping me 💕)

11. Fell in love with every barn cat & dog farm that I saw 😫

*the song choice is 100% inspired by our radio sessions in Dr. Murray’s truck & is the one song I actually knew 😂*

Well.. This is it guys! Thanks so much for joining me on this journey through my clinical year. But don’t worry, things may look a bit different but the learning never stops & the journey continues. See you guys when again when I’m officially…

Canada provided me with so much internally that I didn’t know I needed 🥹 so, this DIL is a little bit different!

I spent my last day wandering through Merrickville, picking up little treasures, enjoying the slow pace, and soaking in every last moment before heading home ✨

This trip gave me a chance to pause for a second outside of the vet clinic, school deadlines, and constant motion — and I honestly needed that more than I realized. Grateful for my host family, the clinic I extended at & memories I made on this trip!

Until next time Canada 🇨🇦

Some veterinary milestones don’t come with a ceremony, title, or white coat. 🩺✨

Sometimes the milestone is:
• the first time you stay calm in chaos
• the first client conversation that changes you
• the moment you realize you actually know what you’re doing
• surviving the exam you thought would break you
• learning how to keep showing up even when you’re exhausted

Those are the moments that shape us long before the DVM letters do. 🤍

Partnering with means so much to me because they continually guide me on my transparent and VERY REAL veterinary journey

If my journey helps even one student feel seen, encouraged, or more confident chasing this profession, then I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to do. 🐾

POV: finally posting my DIL from internal medicine… two blocks late 😭🩺

But honestly, internal med pushed me to think deeper, trust my clinical reasoning more, and learn how much can be hidden beneath a simple presenting complaint.

Long days, SOAPs, diagnostics, caffeine, and a LOT of learning later… I survived 🫶🏽✨

Better late than never, right?

Happy World Veterinary Day 🐾🌎💞

Thank you to the profession God guided me into.

Thank you to every veterinarian, veterinary student, technician, and staff member who pours into this field daily.

Thank you to the pre-vet students preparing to walk this journey.

And thank you to the clients who trust us with their babies—even during the hardest moments.

It takes every single one of us to make veterinary medicine what it is. As I enter this next chapter of veterinarian in just a few weeks, Im so excited to continue learning, growing, and more importantly giving back to those around me. We’re all apart of something bigger than we could ever imagine.
