LIFE CHANGES FOR 08.11.25

86 year old Bonnie Christiansen of Blair, formerly of Omaha, passed away July 30th. Memorial services are tomorrow, at 10:30 in the morning at Campbell Aman.

94 year old Delores Dungan Peters of Blair passed away July 29th. A celebration of Life is Saturday, August 23rd, 1-3 pm at Cherry Hill Coffee Shop and Ice Cream in Fort Calhoun.

69 year old Randy Magill of Fort Calhoun passed away August 5th. Visitation is tomorrow from 5 to 7pm at Sievers Sprick. There will be no funeral service, inurnment will be private.

A NEW FACE AT THE WASHINGTON COUNTY MUSEUM!

The Washington County Museum in Fort Calhoun has hired a new director according to board members. Pamela Eby of Omaha, formerly of the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium will head the museum immediately. She and retiring director Julie Ashton began working on the transition at the start of this month. Julie Ashton will stay on through the opening of the new Hugh and Jame Hunt Vintage Radio Exhibit. Julie has been with the Washington County Museum since 2013

ALL WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S HANDS ON DECK DURING STORMS AND AFTERMATH

An extremely busy weekend for area first responders due to the storms early Saturday...The Washington County Sheriff’s Office assisted with Blair Fire and Police with the roof collapse at the Dollar General Warehouse at 6:30 Saturday morning. All personnel were accounted for.
Deputies aided with storm damage at Riverside Campground, several campers were destroyed, multiple people were transported with injuries.
Several power lines in the county were down, some power poles and tree top fires were handled by Kennard, Fort Calhoun, and other area mutual aide partners.
Deputies also assisted Arlington Fire and Rescue with a propane leak at 6171 Sundown Drive. In addition to helping those hit with storm damage, members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office dealt with a driver involved with a motorcycle accident in the 9 thousand block of County Road p-35

ANNEXATION, REWORKING DOG PARK AMONG AGENDA ITEMS FOR BLAIR CITY COUNCIL TUESDAY NIGHT

A second reading of the Southwestern Annexation Plan is on the agenda for the Blair City Council tomorrow night.
Among the agenda items- consideration of a construction contract for Honey B Lane – just south of the Roundabout, discussion of re-allocating funds originally meant for a youth bike pump track, and more on moving the dog park project from Steyer Park to Black Elk-Neihardt park.
That meeting Tuesday evening is at 7pm in City Council Chambers at 218 South 16th street. The full agenda can be found online at BlairNebraska.org.

STORMS HAD ALL FIRST RESPONDERS BUSY OVER WEEKEND

Sirens were heard many times during the storms over the weekend, on Saturday alone, the Blair Volunteer Fire Department responded to well over thirty calls. Mutual aid partners also responded, with several calls for assistance at the Dollar General warehouse where part of a roof collapsed, Riverside RV park and other areas of town that were hit by winds reaching 90 miles per hour. Among those other agencies helping – Kennard, Fort Calhoun, Herman, Arlington, Bennington, Irvington, and Omaha fire departments as well as the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Blair Police.

WEEKEND STORM DAMAGE

That storm toppled trees, blew over shelters, car ports and more. Some injuries have been indicated in social media, a storm emergency was declared by Mayor Mindy Rump, which is effective through today. City Works personnel have been working to clear debris. Tree Debris collection is on Third Avenue south of Colfax, near the recycling center. Two other temporary sites are at the parking lot of the Veterans Memorial Baseball field and at the east parking lot of Hansen Drive and Angel Share Drive. Douglas county has 242, Sarpy County, 2...Saunders 82, smaller numbers in the remaining county, excepting Washington County, which stands at 399 outages.
