Political cartoons and caricatures have a rich history dating back centuries, using humor and satire to comment on political events and personalities. From the clever illustrations of 18th-century artists like James Gillray to modern-day editorial cartoons, these artworks continue to play a crucial role in political discourse, offering sharp, often humorous critiques that engage and provoke thought among the public.

Thank you to the Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office for eventually providing the public information we requested.

But let’s not ignore the first move. When Bossier Watch sent a LAWFUL public records request, CPSO responded with:
“Our office policy” is that requests must be sent by certified mail.

❌There’s just one problem with that: Office policy DOES NOT override Louisiana law.

So we pushed back. And a few days later — surprise — the records showed up by email.📧

Funny how that works. So yes, thank you for eventually doing what the LAW REQUIRED in the first place.

But the certified-mail-only stunt looked exactly like what it was:
potentially an ILLEGAL GATE, a DELAY TACTIC, and a HOOP the law does not require.

Public records are public records. Not “only if we approve your delivery method” records.

CITE THE LAW. Not your policy. Now, we certainly hope this was just a potentially illegal clerical oversight.

We also hope Sheriff Sam Dowies was completely unaware that someone in his office was trying to put up a certified-mail-only gate that Louisiana Public Records Law does not require.

Bossier Watch - We ask. We push. We keep receipts.

PSA: Louisiana’s Public Records Law is not complicated — some public officials just work real hard to make it feel complicated.

Under La. R.S. 44:31, any person of the age of majority may inspect, copy, or reproduce public records, unless a specific legal exception applies. Not just residents. Not just voters. Not just constituents. Any person.

And while inspecting records, a requestor may copy or reproduce those records without damaging them. That means photos, notes, laptop, scanner — the whole modern world, shocking as that may be to some government gatekeepers.

Also, fees are for copies. The law says custodians MAY CHARGE reasonable copying fees. It does not say they shall charge every time someone looks sideways at a file cabinet.

PUBLIC records belong to the PUBLIC. That’s why they call them PUBLIC records. Funny how WORDS MATTER.

By popular request - here is the intro video we played on last week's show. And guess what? The Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office sent over the information. 😉

And here are the lyrics:

We Don’t Ride the Storm — We Wrangle It

Verse 1
There’s a storm blowin’ through Bossier,
Papers flyin’ in the night.
NDAs in the whirlwind,
Somebody’s hidin’ from the light.

Duke’s holdin’ on for dear life,
Rex has got the rope pulled tight.
When the truth starts kickin’ dust up,
Bossier Watch rides out tonight.

Chorus
We don’t ride the storm —
We wrangle it.
We don’t hide from the noise —
We untangle it.
When the backroom winds start howlin’,
And the public gets ignored,
We don’t ride the storm —
We wrangle it, Lord.

Verse 2
There’s a clown in the cyclone,
A sheriff with a stamp in hand.
“Denied for no reason,”
Well, ain’t that a fine demand.

City Council caught in papers,
Police Jury spinnin’ too.
Library votes and public records,
All caught up in the Bossier stew.

Chorus
We don’t ride the storm —
We wrangle it.
We don’t run from the mess —
We put a saddle on it.
When the secrecy starts swirlin’,
And the excuses start to pour,
We don’t ride the storm —
We wrangle it, Lord.

Bridge
Duke says, “Rex, this thing is ugly!”
Rex says, “Boy, just grab that line.”
Truth don’t come gift-wrapped in ribbons,
Sometimes you rope it from behind.

Dust in our teeth,
Facts in our hands,
Laughin’ while the circus lands.
If they thought we’d let it slide,
Bless their hearts — they never met these guys.

Final Chorus
We don’t ride the storm —
We wrangle it.
We don’t fear the spin —
We put a handle on it.
When the good ol’ boys start sweatin’,
And the paper trail gets torn,
We don’t ride the storm —
We wrangle it, Lord.

Outro
Yeah, we don’t ride the storm…
We rope it, smoke it, joke it, expose it,
And wrangle it.

Speaking of that TRAFFIC situation - what say y'all? Somebody tried to blame it on bad communications by LADOTD - but got schooled in the comments by Erin Buchanan Mills 😂👍

I want to address the traffic issues many residents are experiencing on Benton Road, Airline Drive, and several of our east-west corridors.

First, we understand the frustration. The congestion has impacted commutes, neighborhoods, businesses, and daily routines across a large portion of Bossier City. We hear your concerns, and many of us are experiencing the same delays ourselves.

Unfortunately, this is a Louisiana DOTD project, and the City of Bossier City has no authority over the planning, scheduling, traffic management, or construction activities associated with it. While we have reached out directly to DOTD leadership and members of our state legislative delegation to express concerns and seek assistance, there is very little the City can do to alter the project or its timeline.

That is not the answer anyone wants to hear, but it is the reality of the situation. We will continue communicating with DOTD and advocating on behalf of our residents whenever opportunities arise. In the meantime, we ask for patience and understanding as this state-managed project moves forward.
