🚨 **THE MELERINE FILES — PART 2** 🚨

Tonight we release **Part 2** — the deputy’s visit to **Stacey Melerine at their home** after Michael had been taken from the roadside.

And this part matters because Stacey gives the deputy a timeline that may collide with what Michael later tells EMS.

Stacey says she spoke with Michael around **3:15 PM and he was completely fine**. More importantly, she says Michael had **stopped and gotten fast food on the way back from Baton Rouge.**

Why is that important?

Because in Part 1, we pointed out what appeared to be a **fast-food bag in the passenger seat** and a drink container in the center console. Stacey’s statement appears to corroborate at least the fast-food portion of what the video shows.

Then later, Michael tells EMS he **had not eaten in three days** and had not had anything to drink in **two days**.

So now we’ve got a pretty obvious question:

**If Stacey says he stopped and ate fast food on the way home… how does that square with “I haven’t eaten in three days”?**

That’s not speculation. That’s two pieces of the same timeline that don’t fit very neatly together.

Then **Alan and Laura Seabaugh** arrive, and the conversation moves into medications, possible medical explanations, and what may have caused Michael’s condition.

Because the more video we release, the more the timeline starts talking for itself. 👀

🚨 **THE MELERINE FILES — PART 1** 🚨

As we reviewed in Show 310: The Melerine Files .... We’re releasing **Part 1 of the actual video evidence** from the Michael Melerine incident. and

This starts at the roadside — from the deputies’ initial contact with Melerine, through the questions, the confusion, the “five people,” the refusal of field sobriety, the handcuffing, and ultimately his transport to the Sheriff’s substation.

One deputy can be heard saying:

**“It’s the strangest interaction I’ve ever seen.”**

And later, officers discuss whether there may be **“something just besides alcohol on board.”**

We’ve synced the available camera angles into a multicam presentation so you can see the incident with better context. Other than trimming dead space at the beginnings and ends, the audio and video are being presented as received.

**Watch it for yourself. Draw your own conclusions.**

🚨 THE MELERINE FILES — THE ATTORNEY SPEAKS 🚨

Michael Melerine’s attorney, Eric Johnson, appeared on KEEL News with Erin McCarty and addressed the July 22 incident — including the crash, Melerine’s obvious disorientation, the “five people,” the DWI investigation, the lack of a blood draw, and whether Melerine received special treatment.

Johnson’s position is crystal clear: “I can tell you absolutely what didn’t cause it, and that’s alcohol.”

He says there was no odor of alcohol, no alcohol containers found in or around the vehicle, and that after several hours of investigation deputies ultimately did not arrest or charge Melerine with DWI.

Johnson also acknowledges something nobody is really disputing: Melerine was disoriented.

What caused that disorientation? Johnson says he doesn’t know.

We’ve taken the KEEL interview audio and turned it into a fully transcribed video so you can hear the questions, hear Johnson’s answers, and make up your own mind.

⚠️ BREAKING FROM BOSSIER CITY HALL: Somebody may need to check on Richard Ray. 😂

Charles Jacobs has resigned, and for the first time, our remaining Assistant City Attorney had to face a City Council meeting without his longtime legal wingman sitting nearby.

No Jacobs. No tag-team. No familiar voice jumping into the discussion.

Just Richard.

Sitting there.

Alone.

With the faint sound of Hank Williams playing somewhere in the distance:

🎶 “I’m so lonesome I could cry…” 🎶

And to make matters worse, Ray is now something of a legal lame duck himself while the Chandler administration works on reshuffling the City Attorney’s Office.

We’re not saying Richard brought a framed photo of Jacobs to the meeting.

We’re not saying he kept looking toward the empty chair.

And we’re definitely not saying somebody heard him whisper, “Charles would’ve objected to that…”

But we’re also not saying he didn’t. 😂

Poor Richard.

🚨 BOSSIER WATCH — MICHAEL MELERINE SERIES, CLIP #2 🚨

“Like, 5 PEOPLE.”

In our second clip from the July 22 encounter involving Louisiana State Rep. Michael Melerine, Lt. Jessica Benevage is trying to determine what happened and whether Melerine is okay.

She asks if anyone else is with him.

Melerine says there are “a lot of people, like, five people.”

She asks where they are.

“In the car.”

Her response:

“I don’t… I don’t see them.”

The conversation continues, and Melerine repeatedly refers to people who are supposedly there to drive him home.

Lt. Benevage also asks about possible medical conditions, whether he is diabetic, and whether he has had anything to drink.

Then, near the end of the clip, she makes one point very clear:

“You were driving whenever I pulled up. You were behind the wheel.”

And then: “So we won’t even discuss that because it’s on video camera, you were behind the wheel.”

We’re not going to tell you what to think.

**UPDATE / CORRECTION FROM SHOW 309: OOF! NO WAY!**

We received TWO written memos from Benton Town Hall Town Attorney **Joel Murphy** concerning the August 25 Special Meeting, and we want to correct the record on something Duke and I did **not** have in front of us during Show 309.

Murphy’s first memo addressed the late **website posting** and correctly pointed out that Louisiana law says failure to timely post notice on the Town’s website, by itself, does **not** invalidate the meeting if the required notice was otherwise properly given.

But there was a **SECOND MEMO — an addendum — that we were not aware of during the show.**

In that addendum, Murphy explains that he had initially been **“under the impression”** that the physical notice had been timely posted at Town Hall. After receiving additional information, he clarified that if the physical notice was **not** posted at least 24 hours before the meeting, then the Special Meeting and the actions taken at it were **INVALID**, and the Town would have to call a new properly noticed meeting.

That distinction matters, and we’re posting both memos so everyone can read them for themselves.

There’s another important piece of context: ** Joel Murphy from Murphy's Law, APLC (Town Attorney) was NOT even NOTIFIED about Tuesday night’s FAILED Special Meeting**, which is why the Town Attorney was absent. The Mayor - James Friday - and the CAO apparently failed to inform him that the meeting had been called.

So yes — we’re CORRECTING our discussion from Show 309 regarding the legal effect of the website posting. But the larger situation is still pretty remarkable:

The Town Attorney wasn’t told about the Special Meeting. He initially received information indicating the physical notice had been timely posted. Then additional information caused him to issue a second memo clarifying that if it had not been posted 24 hours in advance, the meeting was invalid.

That’s not exactly a model of smooth municipal communication.

As always, read the documents, follow the timeline, and make up your own mind.

DO POLITICIANS GET TWO STANDARDS?

We’re starting to release clips from the July 22 incident involving State Rep. Michael Melerine — and this first one raises a pretty simple question as raised by Duke on KEEL News this morning with Erin McCarty and Chris Redford.

In the video, Caddo deputies Jessica Benevage and Brian Johnson are talking about what to do next. One of the comments captured on bodycam:

“Don’t run that.”
Followed by:
“Go run it on your computer, or call it in.”

Now, maybe there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. That’s why we’ve been carefully going through hours of bodycam and vehicle-camera footage before jumping to conclusions. And we don't blame the Deputies - because their jobs may be on the line.

But the bigger question is the one we keep coming back to:

Would an ORDINARY CITIZEN in the exact same situation be handled the SAME WAY?

Or do elected officials sometimes get a little more discretion, a little more courtesy, and a little different treatment than everybody else?

We’re going to keep showing the video and let you decide.
