His latest projects include publishing/editing Reka’s Grasp by H. Y. Gregor released October 18, 2024 and editing the Shadowdark adventure Wrath of the Sea Lich by Luke Gygax which is currently fully funded on Kickstarter.

*Spoiler free review*

I’ve been waiting since I read the ARC in January for this book to come out. I can’t wait for people to get their hands on this book and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.

You may have seen Time-Marked Warlock by Shami Stovall be pitched as a cross between The Dresden Files and Groundhog Day. While that is true, it doesn’t give the whole story.

This is a buddy cop story like Lethal Weapon or Rush Hour at its core. Two unlikely partners trying figure out a mystery.

Adair Finch is a Warlock who can put a marker on a specific time and can reset the day to that time if 24 hours hasn’t lapsed. Adair and whoever he puts a mark on will remember everything that happened before the reset but everyone else will think nothing has happened.

Adair is a private investigator but hasn’t worked in a while due to trauma from the last case he worked on. He is suffering from PTSD and has isolated himself from the world.

This changes when a young girl, Bree Blackstone, arrives with news that her mother was murdered and her father was taken.

What follows is one of the most creative stories I’ve read. Is it like Groundhog Day? Yes, but Shami Stovall handles the day repeating over and over so well that you’re never board. She skillfully handles moving throughout the day so you don’t have to read the same material over and over again. Even the things that are repeated have slight changes that make it entertaining. Well done Shami!

The most impressive thing in the story is the relationship between Bree and Adair. Adair’s character arc that happens because of Bree is a thing of beauty. Adair is able to come to grips with his past and become a mentor because he realizes he’s needed.

I can’t wait to read the next one.

Do yourself a favor and get this book.
