Chrome on the desktop will soon be able to use Google's Circle to Search feature.
Since it was introduced with the Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24 lineups in January, Circle to Search has been made available on the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and older Samsung devices. A visual search feature has now been added to Chromebooks and Chrome on the desktop.
In accordance with 9to5Google, the desktop browser version is referred to as "Drag to Search" because not all laptops feature a touch screen for circling items.
Google Lens is integrated into Drag to Search, just as it is with its mobile counterpart. In the address bar of Chromebooks, a Lens icon will be visible. In order to use Drag to Search on Mac and Windows, Chrome users must click on the three-dot menu and select the "Search with Google Lens" option.
A portion of an image can be selected to search for or it can be dragged and dropped into the search bar. As a result of the visual search, Google will provide related results in the side panel. A quick way to access the Drag to Search option is to pin it to the side panel.
The feature is currently available in ChromeOS 127 beta and Chrome 128 beta. As the feature is mentioned in Chrome's "What's new" page, it should be available in the stable version shortly, 9to5Google reports.
