This week, members of our WPPS team attended the Solution Tree PLC at Work® Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma, joining educators from across the country to learn more about creating schools where all students can succeed at high levels!

Throughout the three-day conference (May 27–29), our staff explored the core principles of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): focusing on learning, building a collaborative culture, and using results to drive continuous improvement. They also had the opportunity to learn from nationally recognized education leaders and connect with fellow educators committed to making a difference for students.

We are excited to bring new ideas, strategies, and inspiration back to West Point Public Schools as we continue working together to provide the best possible learning experiences for our students! ❤️

🧠 TEACHER CHALLENGE 🧠

Somewhere in this busy park scene, there’s a blue book hiding in plain sight. 📘👀

Can you find it before another teacher does?

No grading required… just sharp observation skills and maybe a little patience. 😂

There is something powerful about a room filled with educators ready to learn, connect, and grow together. 💙

This morning in Tulsa, more than 1,250 educators from 17 states gathered to begin an incredible three-day learning journey. From Tim Brown’s warm welcome to Mike Mattos’ energizing message on going “all in” as a PLC, day one is off to an inspiring start!

Teachers, thank you for bringing your commitment, curiosity, and heart to this work.

Let’s be honest…

That math unit plan you felt good about?
It made total sense… until real life hit.

⏳ You ran out of time
📚 There were more standards than you expected
🤯 And suddenly, everything felt like a priority

So you start making calls on the fly:

👉 “Do I skip this?”
👉 “Is this actually essential?”
👉 “Will my students really need this later?”

That’s the moment where clarity around GVC (Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum) matters most.

Because strong math teams don’t just plan—they get clear on:

✔ What students are guaranteed to learn
✔ What’s actually realistic in the time they have
✔ What proficiency really looks like

Using tools like the Team Protocol to Unwrap and Make Sense of Mathematics Standards and a Mathematics Unit Planner, teams move from guessing → to clarity.

And everything gets easier after that:
instruction, pacing, and student learning.

💬 Where does your team struggle most when planning math units—and what feels hardest to prioritize?
📩 If GVC still feels fuzzy, this PD is built to help.
