📚 In honor of National Literacy Month, we’re going week by week with Solution Tree authors and experts.

A student isn’t “low.” A student is learning.
Instead of labeling students, strong literacy teams get specific about what they need next.
Is the gap in phonics? Fluency? Comprehension? Vocabulary?

When educators understand both their students’ needs and the standards they’re working toward, they can build a much clearer path to proficiency.

Literacy grows when we stop defining students by where they are—and start identifying what will move them forward.

Every student deserves support that helps them move forward with confidence. 💚

When learners need something more, effective intervention is about more than extra practice—it’s about understanding what they need and creating the conditions for them to grow.

Second Helpings offers educators fresh ideas for building stronger systems of support while helping students develop ownership of their learning and believe in what they can achieve.

Congratulations to Spring Branch ISD on this exciting academic growth! 👏

We’re proud to celebrate the educators, leaders, and students whose hard work and commitment continue to drive meaningful progress. 🎉

A big week for SBISD! ⭐ Today in Austin, Spring Branch ISD was recognized during the Texas State Board of Education meeting for sustained academic growth in reading and math.

SBISD ranks in the 96th percentile among comparable Texas districts and remains the only district in Texas named a national “District on the Rise” by the Harvard and Stanford Education Recovery Scorecard.

This recognition reflects the incredible work happening across our district every day and belongs to our students, teachers, staff and leaders who continue moving Every Child forward.

📚 In honor of National Literacy Month, we’re going week by week with Solution Tree authors and experts.

What do you do when a secondary student is stuck on a word—but the text can’t wait?
Strong vocabulary instruction is about more than learning definitions. It can give adolescent readers the tools they need to access grade-level text with greater confidence and comprehension.

One strategy? Teach students how to break multisyllabic words into manageable parts by identifying prefixes, suffixes, vowels, and syllables.

A small, research-based routine that can make a big difference for readers who need additional support.

Save this one for your next lesson. 💡
