I started celebrating my birthday a little early this year with a Costco cake and some sweet moments at home—complete with the kids singing “Happy Birthday” to me! My original plan to hit the beach on August 14th got delayed when the truck needed rear brakes replaced, but we finally made it the next day. While enjoying the sun, sand, and waves, I got some shocking news: a post popped up about my friend Johnnie passing away… on my birthday. Join us for an unforgettable day in Belize as we take a chartered boat from the mainland to the stunning island of Caye Caulker. Along the way, we make a quick stop at a beautiful sandbar where my sister Tracy, her husband Derek , and Joe hopped in to enjoy the shallow turquoise waters. I stayed on the boat with the captain and crew — I'm not a fan of deep water since I can’t swim!

Once we reach Caye Caulker, we reunite with our cousin, whom we met a few years ago through Ancestry DNA. It’s a heartwarming catch-up, and we get to introduce her to Tracy for the very first time.

And of course… I finally get the meal I’ve been craving — crispy fried red snapper served with rice & beans and fresh salad. The perfect way to end a perfect island day!

Our Belize adventure comes to a close! 💛 On our last day, we made the rounds to hug, laugh, and say goodbye to as many family members as possible. One last stop at Coco Gardens for that unforgettable food 🍽️, then it was off to Phillip Goldson International Airport to catch our United Airlines flight back to LAX. Our Belize adventure took us from the warm smiles of family in Sandhill to the rolling countryside of Spanish Lookout—all in one unforgettable day. 🌿 In Sandhill, we caught up with my husband's sister, brother, and his wife, sharing laughter and soaking in the comfort of home. Then, it was back on the road to Spanish Lookout, where golden fields and quiet roads welcomed us. We enjoyed a hearty lunch before I treated myself (again!) to my favorite indulgence—creamy, dreamy cheesecake ice cream. 🍦💛 Come along for a day filled with family, flavor, and the beautiful contrasts of Belize life.

But let’s talk about the real drama... the bread pudding I baked for the one-hour segment nearly didn’t make it! I didn't understand the quirks of Aunt Merlene’s oven which was set to Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. At first the temperature was too low and the pudding didn't cook, then after we bumped up the temp- let’s just say things got a little too hot in the kitchen. 😂

Join us for a fun-filled day in Belize!
We started the morning with a peaceful walk through the neighborhood with my sister and my husband, then headed out to watch a thrilling bicycle race on the highway. At the starting line, I met some of the cyclists and my cousin Andrew, the vibrant announcer and host of the YouTube show "As The Wheels Turn." We went 8 miles up the road to Aunt Merlene’s, where we cheered the riders on as they sped past her property. The day ended with a unique visit to a talented local artist who creates stunning yard ornaments and fountains using handmade molds. It was a perfect blend of family, culture, and creativity—Belize style!

Hi, My name is Barbara and I'm originally from Belize located in Central America south of Mexico and west of the Caribbean Sea. I now reside in Southern California with my husband of over 38 years. We have 3 young adult children Josh, Jory and Jada. Josh and Jada reside with us and play a major part behind the scenes. Our 2nd born son Jory is married and has a teenage step daughter. He and his family live a short 5 miles away, therfore we see him often.

Join me for a full day of family, culture, and connection in beautiful Belize! 🌞🍞🌴

Our morning started with a peaceful walk through the village with my sister and my husband. We stopped by Aunt Merlene’s house, where she welcomed us into her kitchen and I taught her how to make Baguette — such a special moment! 🥖💛

Afterward, we swung by my father’s water factory for a quick tour of the grounds, then headed to the popular Burns Street in Cayo. There, I met my cousin who owns "The Burns" restaurant and his father Tony, who runs a shop filled with hand-carved wooden souvenirs. 🪵🍽️

The day ended with a joyful birthday celebration and a visit to the lively Belmopan Night Market — music, food, and all the vibrant Belizean energy you can imagine. 🎉🌙🇧🇿

Come along for the ride — it's a day full of memories, family, and a deep love for Belize.
