Driftless is a biannual magazine about food, art, + adventuring in Midwest America.

We introduce our readers to the creative and awe-inspiring wonders the Midwest has to offer by way of stories, illustrations, photos, interviews, and recipes. Our 100-page, full color, perfect-bound print magazine is printed biannually and provides tangible proof that the Midwest is more than merely flyover territory.

In case you missed our announcement last year, Driftless is now complete! We are incredibly proud of the 12 issues we’ve created and have made lifelong friendships along the way.

Issue 5 came out five years ago today! And it’s available for just $5 in our online shop.

This issue includes interviews with members of Indiana’s first organic dairy farm, recipes designed for road tripping, illustrations of notable figures keeping the Midwest love alive, a Detroit city guide, and the story of a coffee shop that began with a simple yellow cart.

All of our issues are completely ad-free and contain 100 pages of timeless features, recipes, city guides, photo essays, interviews, short shorties and more — all centered around the beautiful Midwest.

Our very first issue turns seven this year! This 2014 Summer edition features illustrations of midwest flora and fauna, a photo essay from an Indiana limestone quarry, and a city guide to Grand Rapids. We only made 500 copies of this issue and we still get emails asking about it. This issues is sold out and we’re forever grateful to our first contributors and sponsors for believing in us.

In case you missed our announcement a few months ago, this project is now complete! We are incredibly proud of the 12 magazines that we made celebrating the 12 Midwest states. We’ve been able to tell so many stories of the amazing people in this region in our 1200 pages of content and we’ve made lifelong friendships along the way.

Our available collection (Issues 3-12) are available for just $5 each in our online shop while supplies last. Every issue is completely ad-free and contains 100 pages of timeless artist features, recipes, city guides, DIY guides, interviews, short stories, and photo essays. Hello Driftless community!

We hope you are safe and healthy. We miss being out and about in the Midwest, and we know you do too. After the past two months it’s become clear to us that we aren’t going to be able to safely finish our upcoming Issue 13. Each of our issues involves traveling and interacting with so many incredible people and places and we want everyone to remain as safe as possible.

Although it had not yet been announced, we had planned for 2020 to be the final year for our print publication. As a result of the current situation, we’ve made the difficult decision to end this beautiful project a little earlier than anticipated.

We began this magazine in 2014 with the intention of introducing our readers to the many wonders the Midwest has to offer. That we are more than merely “flyover territory.” We are incredibly proud of the 12 issues we’ve created, and have made lifelong friendships with so many people along the way. As we continue on, we will forever be supportive of the good people who choose to call this region home. We are proud to live and create here.
