There's a moment in parenting where you stop narrating and just... watch.
We had one of those moments at Badlands National Park.
Four boys — loud, hungry, constantly asking when the next snack is — and they went completely quiet. No one told them to. No screens to compete with. Just this ancient, alien landscape stretching out in every direction, and four kids trying to figure out how something this big even exists.
We've been doing this parent thing for a while now. We know how rare those moments are.
We almost didn't go. The drive felt long. The budget felt tight. The logistics of moving six people across South Dakota felt like a lot for a park we weren't sure the boys would appreciate.
They appreciated it.
And then some.
We made a video about everything we learned — the entrance most families skip, the hidden fossil trail that made our youngest feel like a real explorer, the wind situation nobody warns you about, and the bison moment I genuinely didn't see coming.
It's our most honest guide yet. Because Badlands deserves an honest guide.
If you've ever thought about taking your family there — or if you went years ago and want to go back — I think this one's for you.
