Mother's Day at Montage Palmetto Bluff / Mother's Day is next Sunday, and Octagon is hosting a beautiful brunch from 10 am to 3 pm. They'll also be a Mother's Day Market in the Main Hall of the Inn during the same time, featuring their selection of favorite gifts to shop and pamper mom. Octagon's menu is a modern interpretation of classic Carolina cuisine, using the freshest ingredients of the Lowcountry. LOCAL ARTIST Cassandra Gillens has been working on a new series called "Remembering History". A self-taught artist, she was born in Boston but spent a lot of time visiting family in SC, and she has settled in Beaufort, SC. I had the pleasure of visiting Cassandra at her studio, open by private appointment. Her paintings vivid colors, and southern culture subject exude her gentle, kind and comforting nature. Her earlier works depict fond memories of her childhood and her connection with her people and culture. Cassandra has been featured across the country. DAY TRIP take a drive up to the Old Sheldon Church Ruins, just a short drive from the circle where 21 & 17 meet. Originally built around 1745, it was burned and rebuilt throughout the years. Surrounding the ruins is an old graveyard, it's definitely worth seeing. Stop at on your way up or back for some incredible Lowcountry food to make a slow southern day of it.
