Years of rivalry between the Bluffton beavers and the Defiance yellowjackets started and continued to intensify even when Bluffton faculty played on the teams during their undergraduate experiences. Tyson Goings, the student counselor and the director of diversity, equity, and inclusion, commented on what he remembers of the rivalry during his undergrad experience at Bluffton.

“I would like to say the rivalry between us intensified in 2000 when we played them for the conference title,” said Goings. “Our head coach Carlin Carpenter had graduated from Defiance, so he added a little bit more in hyping it up for us.”
