🚤 Heads up, boaters!

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 6, Beaufort County Public Works and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) will remove three derelict boats from the Alljoy Public Boat Landing. Equipment will be staged at the site on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

During the removal process there will be periods of time when the parking lot and ramp may be closed to traffic. Crews will work to complete the project as quickly as possible and minimize disruptions.

Removing abandoned vessels helps protect our marshes and waterways, and improves boating safety.

From Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue: On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 4:09 a.m. Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue’s 911 center received a report of a fire at the Palmetto Bay Marina located on Helmsman Way.

The first fire unit arrived on scene at 4:16 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from multiple boats along with sections of the dock. Five engines, two medics, the ladder truck, Battalion Chief, and multiple support personnel responded to the fire.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at approximately 4:52 a.m. A total of 10 boats were involved in the fire. 7 boats were a total loss and 3 received minor damage. All boats were unoccupied and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
