Mike McHenry, who served 8 years in the U.S. Army, is the owner & Lead Trainer of F.M. K9 LLC, which was founded in 2012. He has over 25 years of experience in the canine industry, training explosives and narcotics detection, patrol/utility work, SAR, and Cadaver for local, state, federal and military.

Mike is a retired police officer, having served 20 years on the force, and a former SWAT officer for 11 years, 3 of those years were spent with a canine SWAT Team.

Mike McHenry has a BSA in Criminal Justice and a Masters Degree in Psychology. He is a DRE/SFST Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor and has instructed basic decoy skills for over 15 years.

Song Kang has 20 plus years of law enforcement experience as a patrol officer, narcotics/criminal apprehension K9 handler, EDD handler, and Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board Certified Instructor. Song serves as the Training Sergeant supervising agency instructors and managing all in-service training.

Since 2009, Song served as the Chief fi****ms instructor and armorer for his agency. He holds instructor certification as an active shooter response instructor, tactical medic instructor, ballistic shield instructor and Vohne Liche Kennels dual purpose K9 trainer. Song has a diverse teaching background instructing law enforcement nationally and internationally. He travels nationally instructing law enforcement tactics and has trained international students from South Korean National Police Agency SWAT K9.

Zach Pfannenstiel brings over 18 years of law enforcement experience, with more than 12 years dedicated to police canine operations as a handler, trainer, and program manager. He currently serves as a Police Lieutenant, where he is assigned to and oversees critical operations including barricaded suspects, high-risk vehicle stops, canine area and building searches, and other SWAT callouts.

Zach manages one of the largest canine programs in the region, consisting of more than 40 working teams, and developed a specialized Field Training Officer (FTO) program for K9 handlers. He is a recognized, court-certified expert in animal behavior, police canine handling, and use of force, and has provided expert testimony in state legislative hearings on police tactics at the California State Capitol.

In addition to his leadership role, Zach runs comprehensive canine academies and specialized training programs nationwide. His instruction covers e-collar integration, tactical tracking, decoy development schools, and SWAT/K9 integration, preparing teams for high-risk, real-world deployments.

As the CEO of Echelon K9, Zach oversees all operations related to training law enforcement and military canine teams. He travels across the country delivering seminars to police departments and military units, sharing his expertise in canine deployment, tactical operations, and program management to raise operational standards and reduce liability in the field.

Class: K-9 Stress Inoculation Prior to Deployments | Reality Based Detection Training

Rodney Spicer Jr is currently the Director of Operations at Gold Coast K9, located in Southern California. Gold Coast K9 provides maintenance training for over 30 law enforcement agencies and private companies throughout the West Coast. As a Trainer, his duties include; K9 selection/evaluation, directing weekly maintenance training, dual purpose patrol/detection schools, instructing various classes ( K9 Stress Inoculation Prior to Deployments, Reality Based Detection course, Agitator Safety course, Utilizing the Electronic Dog Training Collar Course, and more).

Rodney has conducted over a thousand detection sniffs, resulting in many real world finds as a detection handler. He became a Reserve Police Officer at age 20 in Southern California. By age 22, Rodney was hired by a police department (CA) where he worked patrol for 4 years as a full-time police officer and later transitioned from a full-time police officer to a reserve police officer to pursue a career in dog training with the family business. Rodney went on to work an additional 5 years as a reserve police officer for the same agency (CA).

Paul Shaughnessy founded Excel K-9 Services, Inc. in 2001 and it now consists of a staff of working law enforcement K-9 trainers. Paul was a field sergeant and officer in charge of his 150 member department’s K-9 unit that currently consists of three police service dog teams which serve a diverse urban community. He was responsible for all training and deployment issues. He is a graduate of the Police Executive Administrative Leadership School and a graduate of SWAT Operator’s School and served as the supervisor of the department’s full time SWAT Unit. Paul is now retired from law enforcement after 16 years of service.

Paul has trained and assisted in the training of hundreds canines that are currently being used in law enforcement around the world. He has received over 3,500 hours of instruction from a variety of nationally and internationally recognized trainers of police service dogs. He also has extensive training in drug interdiction and identification and urban community policing as well as counter-terrorism interdiction and identification. Paul received handler and trainer certificates from a nationally accredited and recognized K-9 academy and has received Master Trainer Accreditation in utility dogs, narcotic detection and explosive detection dogs with the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA), the largest police service dog organization in the United States.

Class: K-9 Tactical Team Takedowns and Deadly Force Encounters

Blake Broadhurst has been a police officer with a major metro police department in Central Florida for 15 years, spending 13 of them on specialty units. He has served as an assault member on the SWAT team and has worked on multiple proactive crime suppression units. Blake has been a K-9 handler for a decade and instructor for the K-9 unit. Currently, he works a K-9 on a narcotics interdiction unit. He has been involved in over 100 uses of force during his career, ranging from hand-to-hand combat to deadly force encounters. Blake has received four departmental awards, each for a different take down of armed suspects.

As a K-9 handler, Blake has deployed on hundreds of real-time calls with numerous apprehensions with over 100 catches with his former K-9 partner, Champion. As an instructor, Blake holds certifications as a K-9 Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor and Federal Active Shooter Instructor. As a trainer, he has developed numerous creative and high-skilled training scenarios that have been adopted by his agency. He is also the Lead Instructor and Owner of Mav1 Tactics, which developed and hosts a K-9 defensive tactics course focusing on tactical K-9 team take downs of a suspect during violent encounters.
