Eve of First day of School thoughts…

August 16, 2020, the Eve of the first day of the 2020-2021 school year! Traditionally, as an educator and parent, it has always had the feel of Christmas Eve and morning in our home! Excitement was running throughout the household as well as my classroom. As we begin tomorrow, let us draw on those feelings of excitement from years past. The positives are: it is a fresh moment in time for everyone, we will deal with the unknowns, and make the most of the situation. Ecclesiastes 3 has always been my go to scripture. The first line states, “There is a time for everything.” This year, some will be teaching face to face and some virtually. No matter what the platform, teachers, parents, and students will step up to the plate! As in baseball, if we take a strike, we will evaluate the delivery and modify it in order to be better. We are all vulnerable, but make no mistake, we will not give up! We are in this together, and we WILL prevail!!

As educators, we strive to be prepared for all situations that might occur. For example, fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and intruders! The words-FEAR, Flight, and Fight- are always at the center of our thinking. But I challenge each of us to add another F-Word: FAITH! I don’t know about you, but this educator is not one to live in FEAR or one to fly the coop. I am filled with FAITH because of my trust in God and I will ALWAYS FIGHT on behalf of my students and colleagues, but most importantly my Lord.

Are you aware of the the connection between 365 days in a year and the number of times “Fear not” is mentioned in the Bible is 365? To me, serves as a reminder every day that we should not FEAR! I will focus on FAITH, HOPE, JOY, KINDNESS, GRACE, and most of all LOVE!! Join me in praying over our educators, students, and parents as we launch a school year that is different but one that I feel will be BLESSED! Remember, relationships should last a lifetime! Building relationships at this time will be different BUT they are just as essential as YOU are!

God Bless each of you and may this be the BEST year EVER!! Hang on, the BEST is YET to COME!!

Good morning to all and welcome back to school teachers in D2, D6, and all across the great state of SC. It has been a wonderful summer where each of us has had the opportunity to refresh, renew, recertify (yes, classes, PDs, etc) and relax! I am excited to begin the year as an educator! Yesterday as we celebrated Erin’s birthday, it hit me that I’ve been blessed to be an educator for 35 years. What an awesome profession!! We are so fortune and I thank God everyday for sending His son, Jesus to demonstrate what great teaching looks like! My challenge to all of us is to teach more like Jesus! Exhibit patience, love, passion, forgiveness, and perseverance! Never give up on yourself, a colleague, a student, or a parent! Build relationships to last forever and God will bless you. Strive to see the good in everyone, just think God forgives and sees the good in us. God bless each of you and the students and families you influence! Get ready....the BEST IS YET TO COME!! You are making a difference!

Today was a special day for me! As I have been strolling down memory lane of my high school days the past few days, I also had the opportunity to stroll down memory lane as a school board member. We are in the last stages of opening a new high school-Boiling Springs where our Banks children graduated... tears filled my eyes and my heart swelled with pride as I walked the halls and thought about them, their friends, and children I taught for district 20+ years and now I GET to give back to our community.
Kenny and I graduated from an awesome school Ninety Six , we live in a super fantastic school district where we now have two precious grandsons attending Chesnee, and I work in another grand school district-Dorman. I love our D2 families!

Tonight I had the pleasure of watching the HES production, The Lion King! Make no mistake, all children are learning! It’s not always a test score that measures a student’s growth. These students were utilizing every S.C. state standard that exits. Also, it was clearly evident to me and I hope many others, as to why educators need to be recognized as professionals and salaries need to be increased. Congratulations to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and grandparents. An outstanding play! The circle of life....👏👏👏👏

This morning was filled with joy, excitement, and humbleness for me as I had the distinct honor of visiting Hendrix Elementary School as a school board member! A day I will always cherish. Super Heroes we’re everywhere! Thank you to each and every administrator, teacher, support staff, and student! You made me remember my “why”! Together we WILL change the world! 🧡🧡🧡🧡

You inspire students to take risks where they may fail but YOU ARE there to support and guide them. We all know through this process we grow to new heights.
