This story is insane: Former Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding, a 2002 Winter Games participant, is now on the FBI’s most wanted list, accused of leading a large-scale international criminal operation after his competitive career. After a period of jail time, he allegedly joined international drug trafficking networks and reportedly fled to Mexico, narrowly avoiding rearrest.
Federal investigators claim Ryan Wedding was a leader in a transnational drug network, allegedly moving large amounts of co***ne from Colombia, through Mexico and Southern California, for distribution across the US and Canada. FBI Director Kash Patel likened Wedding to a “modern-day” Pablo Escobar, emphasizing the operation’s perceived scale, though some sources in Mexico suggest this estimate is exaggerated.
Wedding is wanted for drug trafficking, violent crimes, and orchestrating violence linked to his operation. He allegedly ordered the ex*****on-style murder of a federal witness in January 2025 at a Columbia restaurant. His lawyer apparently advised: “If you kill this witness, the case will be dismissed.” According to the DOJ, Wedding, his lawyer and 17 others are being charged with orchestrating the murder.
Federal authorities, investigating Ryan Wedding’s financial network, seized $40 million in 62 rare champion Moto GP motorcycles and an extremely rare 2002 Mercedes Benz CLK GTR Roadster valued at $13 million. Mexican raids also recovered two Olympic medals (possibly gold or Canadian snowboarding medals), though their owner is unclear. Wedding did not win an Olympic medal, having placed 24th in parallel giant slalom in 2002.
Authorities suspect Wedding is protected in Mexico by cartel-affiliated groups, possibly the Sinaloa Cartel. The FBI has added him to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, and the U.S. State Department offers a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to his arrest or conviction.
With all that being said Ryan, we’d love to come interview you in Mexico if you’re up for it.
