Received this note from a client recently.... "I just wanted to take a minute to tell you and your team how appreciative we are for all that you have done for our company. Social media was a big burden I wasbearing and you guys have not only relieved me of it, but you have knocked it out of the park."

Three quick things...
1) Hearing this meant the world to me. I know we're doing something great, but hearing others affirm it hits different.
2) Words like these have massive impact on others, take 20 seconds to say, and cost nothing. We should all be saying things like this more often to those who deserve it.
3) If social media is a burden for you, too, and you'd like hours back in your days and weeks to focus on what's important, send me a DM.

Every engagement someone has with you and your brand is impacting that individual's perception of you.

Do they like you?
Are you fun?
Do you know what you're talking about?
Are you adding value to them?
Are they proud to be working with/associated with you?

Your brand is not your logo. Your brand is the feeling evoked when seeing your logo. Leaving that feeling up to chance is playing with 🔥

I had the opportunity last week to speak to my daughter’s 5th grade class for career day! We talked about what graphic design, brand, and marketing all mean and the role they play in a company’s success. I also got to share that when our plans for life get thwarted, it’s often because there’s better ones coming that we couldn’t have imagined on our own.

Maybe most importantly I told all of these 10 and 11 year olds to stay off of, and far away from, social media until their twenties!

Social media content tip…. Share photos and/or videos of your community over the next couple months. 🎃 People like to see their home states/towns/neighborhoods and know what’s going on in them.

This photo was from a walk my family and I did yesterday through a neighborhood decked out for Halloween. That one walk could have easily resulted in several days worth of content.

Bonus points if you include people - yourself and/or others. Algorithms like smiling faces. 😃

I’ve worked with loan officers for over a decade and I’ve seen some of THE BEST salesmen/women turn into utter tree stumps when trying to record a video. 🌲

You can have the best lighting, audio, and scripts but there’s something totally different about trying to sound perfect on camera vs. just being your natural self while teaching/leading. The bigger problem? Even if you make it through and get some good content, it’s hard to be consistent and continue to try to produce ‘perfect’ videos over and over. So you may get a few good clips once or twice, but then you start to dread the process of creating more.

Here’s the good news: technology has created endless opportunities for engaging and impactful social content to be produced. I encourage LOs and leaders to find a way to take recordings of your meetings and grab the short clips for your social media content. It’s simple, it’s repeatable, and you don’t need to worry about being perfect... just be you. Plus, there’s no end in sight to your conversations which means there will be no end in sight your content.

A couple weeks ago I crossed over a big personal milestone here on LinkedIn as I crested 5,000 connections - halfway to the goal I set a little over a year ago.

In August of 2023, I was in a role I had no intention of leaving and was excited for the future of - but a layoff came out of left field and forced me down a path that I had no idea where it would lead me. Honestly, at times it felt like it was just heading straight for a cliff.

I knew the power and benefit of utilizing this platform but, like most people, was comfortable and neglected taking advantage of it. So, when I needed it most, I wasn’t prepared. It was like my car had just broke down in the middle of nowhere and I was sitting there REALLY wishing I had just paid for the dang towing add-on with my auto insurance. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I made a decision that I would never be that unprepared again with regards to my career and livelihood. All it ever takes is one person to change the course of your life and growing your network on LinkedIn simply increases the likelihood of crossing paths with that person. I’m thankful I’ve been able to connect with far more than just one person who has made an impact on me - often times out of nowhere and for no personal gain - just because they’re a great human and have a heart to serve others.

Two things to wrap up this uniquely long post from me... 1) use your 200 weekly connects that LinkedIn offers. 20-30 minutes, one day, every week. 2) If you’re still reading this and there’s anything I can do for you, please let me know. Over the last year I’ve hired a professional resume writer, applied to over 700 jobs, interviewed countless times, been ghosted countless times, turned down job offers, started my own business, accepted job offers, and, maybe most importantly, learned my worth, what I’m capable of, and how to enjoy the ride. So even if you just want to chat, I’ll make the time.

I’m excited to continue to build new relationships, deepen existing ones, and see what adventures lie ahead!
