Christine Huckins became the first Idaho Gatorade Girls Track Athlete of the Year from Capital High on Monday, taking home the honor as the top female athlete in the state across all classifications.

The junior set 6A District Three meet records in the 100 (11.67 seconds) and 200 meters (23.83), and helped Capital set a new district record in the 4x100-meter relay (46.95) in May.

Her time in the 200 would have broken her own all-class state record had it come at the state meet, but she missed the meet due to illness. Capital’s 4x100 mark would have also set an all-class state meet record she helped set last year had it come a week later. Huckins set the all-class state meet record in the 100 (11.62) last year, too.

“Christine was far and away the top athlete in the state, consistently,” Boise coach Aaron Olswanger said in a news release. “There aren’t many athletes who can make everyone in the stadium stop what they’re doing and watch — she’s one of them.”

“I’ve talked to more D-I, D-2 college coaches (this year) about our teams, and they weren’t quite aware of what we had out here. Now that they can see what we can produce, I think you’re going to see a lot more players leaving this state and going for bigger opportunities.” ️⚽️👉 https://tinyurl.com/yhbt9xu4

Rocky Mountain junior forward Campbell Wilson completed a clean sweep of individual awards this week when the Gatorade Company named her Idaho’s all-class girls soccer player of the year.

The Boise State commit scored a 6A-leading 30 goals and added eight assists to lead the Grizzlies (18-1-2) to district and state championships. She was previously voted the 6A All-Idaho and 6A SIC player of the year by the state’s and the league’s coaches.

“Campbell is the most dangerous offensive player on the field and can take over a game at any moment,” former Timberline coach Jarreth Chan said in a news release. “She tore her ACL the year before and her team didn’t qualify for the state playoffs. This season, with her back, they won the state title. I think that says a lot.”

Wilson joins Rylan McPherson as Rocky Mountain standouts won the Gatorade boys and girls soccer player of the year awards this year. She is the fourth girls soccer player from Rocky Mountain to win the all-class award, joining Kelsey Oyler (2020-21, 2019-20), Raimee Sherle (2013-14) and Brooke Heidemann (2011-12).

Idaho wrapped up its soccer season in October but many states play high school soccer in the spring, leading Gatorade to delay the awards.

His high school career may have ended in October, but Rocky Mountain senior forward Rylan McPherson added one last award Thursday as Gatorade named him the state’s all-class player of the year.

The NNU commit led the Grizzlies (17-2-2) to a district title and a runner-up finish at the 6A state tournament last fall. The captain and four-year starter tied for the 6A lead with 26 goals in 21 games, and he added 12 assists to finish with the most points (64) in the 6A classification.

“Rylan McPherson is a player who changes the dynamic of any team he’s on,” Mountain View coach Alex Saldana said in a press release. “He’s someone I would look at if I were starting up a program and looking to build a team around a single player.”

McPherson is the fourth Gatorade boys soccer player of the year from Rocky Mountain, joining Kristian Quiros (2018-19), Jonah Dalmas (2016-17) and Tyson Fox (2013-14).

Many states play their high school soccer season in the spring, leading the Gatorade to delay its awards until June. The company will announce its girls soccer player of the year next week.

Timberline two-way threat Delaney Wright took home the state’s top softball award Monday, becoming the first softball player in school history to earn the all-class Gatorade player of the year award.

The Utah Tech signee went 17-5 with a 1.65 ERA in the circle, striking out 252 and walking just 17 in 135 ⅔ innings. But she was also a dangerous threat at the plate, hitting .543 with six home runs and 43 RBIs to lead the Wolves (20-6) to a fourth-place trophy at state and a runner-up finish in the district tournament.

“No one else in the state was more well-rounded and as dominant as Delaney,” Mountain View coach Kylie Orr said in a news release. “Delaney is also a phenomenal young woman of high character.

“Over the last two years, the Timberline games have been some of my favorites because facing a player like Delaney brings out the best in a team. She plays the game the right way and displays sportsmanship whether they are winning or losing.”

Wright maintained a 3.36 GPA and volunteered as a foster child caregiver and at the Ronald McDonald House.

Recent Idaho winners of the all-class award include Eagle’s Hayleigh Oliver (2024), Owyhee’s Samantha Hatzenbeller (2023) and Skyview’s Delaney Keith (2022, 2021).
