This cabinet is the newest furniture member of my office. It houses the podcast gear for my new (shameless plug here) video podcast, The Aid Station. It’ll be a podcast about the cross-section of doing hard physical things and mental/physical/spiritual health. I’ll be posting episodes soon on my YouTube channel (Trail Name Goes Here) and other audio podcast places.

Days 4 and 5: My eating issue became too dangerous to continue. I hate that I had to stop, but it did highlight a weakness I’ll need to work on if I’m to try anything even remotely similar in the future. I’ll need to train my system to intake calories while engaging in extreme endurance situations.
All in all, we did about 5 days on the PCT. I have an even greater respect for those that attempt such an iconic adventure!

Day 3: Things are getting worse for me. Dangerously so. I didn’t record much or take pics bc of my state. Not a good day. This day started with a few hundred feet decent, which I enjoyed, and then about 800 ft ascent. Then in the backside of that, about 800 ft decent again… during the hottest part of the day. I still couldn’t stomach any food. This was starting to give me anxiety.

Day 2 on the PCT from Walker Pass. I was not doing well. I was struggling to eat and I had to figure out how to drink only one litter of water for 8 miles, roughly 5 of which were uphill in the desert heat. Not a fan favorite experience.

Day 2: June 18, 2026. Bus ride from Bishop CA to Inyokern CA. We ate at a burger place called Classic Burger and waited for a trail angel to pick us up. I reached out on Facebook to trail angel groups and this wonderful lady helped us get from Inyokern to Walker Pass. She wouldn’t accept donations which was cool. We met at guy giving trail magic whose trail name is Old Yeller. He was a character to say the least. We started hiking at 230pm, in 100 degrees F. It was very very hard. We made it 5 miles down the trail with roughly a 1500 feet climb. I was very not ok at the end. I cramped up, and struggled to get rid of my queasiness. This is going to be rough y’all. Either way, we’re in it now. 🔥

Day 1 - June 17, 2026
Flight from Boise to Las Vegas to Reno. Then a bus (Eastern Sierra Transit) from the Reno airport to Bishop, CA.

Along the way, we met a couple that was finishing the 2nd half of the PCT. They got off trail the previous year at roughly the halfway point. I didn’t catch their names.

Waiting for the bus, we met Boy-Howdy (trail name) who also rode the bus with us. He had started the PCT on April 9th, got off the trail for a few weeks, and was getting back on to finish from Mammoth Lakes.

So far, I’m feeling sleepy, excited/anxious, and I am ready to get to the hotel in Bishop. Off to the right, I can see the mountains we are about to hike through and they look daunting. What have I got us into?
