Let's talk about how to spot a scammy legal nurse mentorship program.

A few things to watch for:

Cold messaging you out of nowhere

Heavy pressure to book a "free call" immediately

A second person ("wingman") joining that call to help close you

Specifically asking for the breadwinner of the household to be on the call

Guilt-tripping your hesitation ("didn't you say you had savings?")

Promising you work they can't actually guarantee

Multiple spin-off/rebranded versions of the same program

Calling themselves "certified" when it's actually just a certificate of completion - there's only one recognized board certification for LNCs after 2000 LNC working hours

If you're losing sleep over spending the money, that's your gut telling you something.

Take your time. Ask questions. Trust that feeling.

Two shifts a week sounded like the dream with more days home, more time with my kids. I will never forget the day I confirmed the .6 position at the hospital. I thought I had made it!

Nobody tells you what those two days actually feel like when you’re running on no sleep, missing bedtimes because you’re recovering from a night shift, and still trying to be present.

I loved bedside nursing for 17 years. But “part-time” at the hospital didn’t mean part-time exhausted.

Legal nurse consulting gave me a way to use everything I already knew without sacrificing the days I was supposed to be “off.”

Now my schedule actually looks like what I imagined it would. Flexibility will change your life if you allow it to.

Sundays were his only day off. So Sundays were also my 12-hour shifts when I worked days. 🥲

We traded off childcare like a relay race. He was with the babies while I was at the hospital, both of us just trying to make it work. He never complained. We didn’t get Sundays together for so long.

Building my Legal Nurse Consultant business gave me my Sundays back. Now they’re just… ours.

The short answer yes LNCs can get paid $150-200/hour for behind-the-scenes work.

That part is true. But nobody talks about how you actually get there.

Sometimes you have to take a lower rate at first just to get the experience and land your first case because that's the hardest part of all of this.

Some mentorship programs sell you on the $150/hour number without mentioning that.

If you're not confident charging that yet, that's okay.

Start where you are.

Give an attorney a break in the beginning as an intro offer, and chances are they'll come back with more work.

Because here's the truth... If you're not confident saying "$150 an hour is my rate," you're never going to reach out to an attorney. And if you never reach out, you never actually get started.

So if a program is catching your eye because of the pay number... remember, it's possible.

But it's not always the starting line.
