A guy completely lost it on me the other day.

He said I was complicit in lying. Hiding information. Deliberately trying to hurt him.

The wild part? I was actually fighting for him behind the scenes. He just didn't know it.

In that moment I had two options. Defend myself or just let him vent.

I chose to stay quiet.

Not because I had nothing to say. Trust me, I had plenty.

But sometimes people don't need to be corrected. They need to feel heard.

He was angry, hurting and I drew the short straw.

So I measured my breathing. I let him get it all out.

When the call ended I didn't feel defeated. I didn't feel vindicated either.

I just felt... empathy.

Matthew 5:44 was running through my head the whole time.

Because I understood where he was coming from, even if he was wrong about me.

Leadership isn't always about being right. Sometimes it's about staying steady when someone else is falling apart.

Peace matters more than proving a point.

And sometimes the most powerful move is absorbing the blow instead of throwing one back.

Purpose-driven coaches and entrepreneurs have the most powerful stories.

Most of them never get told.

I saw it play out yesterday in a content meeting with one of my clients. He mentioned that his wife had read his latest post twice and still couldn't tell whether he wrote it or I did.

The post was about their new grandson and a prayer God answered years later. She knows his voice. She knows mine. She couldn't find the seam.

He's a Christian marriage coach. His content isn't about tactics or frameworks. It's about what God does over decades when you stay faithful. Getting that right means understanding what he believes before I write a single word.

Before that post, he told me the story. The prayer, the waiting, what it felt like when his grandson finally arrived. I didn't add anything. I just made sure none of it got lost.

That's the job.

Why does communication really break down at work?

Healthy communication needs truth, trust, and flow. Miss one, and collaboration stalls.

When workplace communication fails, it's because something gets distorted—either the message, the relationship, or the process. Good communication is about protecting truth, trust, and flow.
