A teacher’s courage changed the outcome of one of the darkest days in American school history. On December 14, 2012, Victoria Leigh Soto, a 27-year-old first grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School, put her students’ safety before her own.

When the crisis unfolded, Victoria acted quickly to keep her class safe. She guided her students into hidden spaces, including a closet and bathroom, and positioned herself near the classroom entrance to protect them. Her brave actions gave every child in her classroom a chance to live.

Victoria did not make it home that day, but her courage continues to inspire people. She was honored with the Presidential Citizens Medal, and her memory remains through educational programs, scholarships, and the lives of the students she protected. Her story reflects the deep care teachers have for the children they teach. 🕊️❤️

It's Happening Soon !
On October 5, 2026, skywatchers will have a beautiful celestial gathering as the waning crescent Moon, reddish Mars, bright Jupiter, and the Beehive Cluster (M44) appear in the same region of the sky.
The Moon will pass especially close to the Beehive Cluster, while Mars will appear nearby and Jupiter will shine farther below. The Beehive Cluster contains hundreds of stars and is best appreciated with binoculars or a small telescope, although under dark skies it can appear as a faint hazy patch to the unaided eye.
The Moon–Beehive encounter occurs on October 5, while the Moon moves very close to Jupiter on October 6, making this a particularly interesting stretch of mornings for skywatchers.

Over the weekend, Willie Nelson performed his poignant song "Last Leaf" at Farm Aid 2026.

The song finds Willie reflecting on being the last one left from a generation of friends, watching the people he once shared life with slowly disappear. There’s something incredibly powerful about hearing those words from Willie, a living legend who has experienced more loss and said goodbye to more friends than most of us could ever imagine.

And when Willie sings about being the “last leaf” hanging on the tree, it feels less like a song and more like a glimpse into his own life. At 93, every word carries a little more weight.
