This set right here had some serious history behind it.
Picked up this Victorian parlor set from a local gentleman’s garage and at first, I just saw the craftsmanship. The solid wood, heavy, hand-carved details… the kind of furniture you don’t come across every day.
But after digging into them a bit, the story got even better.
I was able to trace them back to the Arlington Hotel that was built in the 1860s in De Soto, Missouri. They were used around the same time period when Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederacy, was known to have stayed there in 1875.
Think about that for a second… how many people have sat in these chairs over the years? The conversations, the history, everything they’ve seen.
They weren’t perfect. They had worn fabric, some age showing, but that’s what made them what they are. Real pieces with real life behind them.
We ended up finding them a new home, but this is one of those sets I won’t forget.
That’s the kind of stuff that keeps me hooked
